Sunday marked day three of the PG Super25 10u National
Championship and the final day of pool play. Eight teams advanced to the next
round and will begin bracket play tomorrow afternoon. Here’s a game-by-game
summary of the action from day three:
JR Nelson was in rare form as he pitched a complete game no-hitter in the Pro
Player Hurricanes’ 5-0 win over the Bronx Bombers. The Canes hit their stride
late, scoring five runs in the final two innings. Dimitri Angelakos’ RBI single
opened the flood gates in the fourth inning.
Logan Geter’s four RBI performance from the plate provided much needed run
support in the 643 DP Cougars’ 7-3 triumph over the Midland Blackhawks. He
doubled in the third inning and tripled in the sixth. Harrison Weber
contributed two more runs to the Cougars’ cause with a third inning home run. However,
the Cougars' luck would run out against Bryce Alewine and the Otc Xplosion.
Alewine tossed three scoreless innings and recorded two triples as the Xplosion
prevailed 6-3.
The Tallahassee Heat Black thrived against the Cartersville Canes’ pitching,
racking up twelve runs in a shut-out victory. Kolten Leach drove home a game-high
three RBIs with a single and a pair of doubles. The Heat would carry their momentum
into their following game versus the Pro Player Hurricanes. John Pitchford and
Jace Estes combined for six strong innings on the mound in their team’s 5-0
victory over Pro Player. The Heat did not surrender a single run all day.
Things went from bad to worse as the Cartersville Canes endured another
crushing defeat, this time against the Banditos. Joshua Munoz led the
high-powered Banditos' offense with three RBIs in his team’s 17-2 whipping of
the Canes.
For a second consecutive game, the Banditos dropped 17 runs on their opponent.
This time the unlucky recipient was the Bronx Bombers, who got rocked 17-9. The
Bombers gained some traction with six runs in the bottom of the fifth, but they
couldn’t quite close the gap. Ross Donaldson, Tyler Garritano, and Dylan Aguado
combined for eight hits and 10 RBIs as the Banditos rolled over the Bombers.
The CBC Elite were valiant in defeat as they gave the undefeated Tri-State
Arsenal-McAdams a run for their money. The Arsenal established an eight-run
lead after the second inning, but the Elite never gave up. Luisangel Reyes’
three-run double closed the gap in the third inning, but the Arsenal held on
for the 12-7 win.
Tri-State Arsenal and the Otc Xplosion had been two of the hottest teams thus far
in the tournament, but only one team bolstered their impressive resume with
a win. The Xplosion held the 3-2 lead entering the fourth inning, but the
Arsenal erupted for seven runs in the bottom of the inning to stun the Xplosion
9-3. Freddy Collender and Jack Tallent combined for three RBIs in the Arsenal’s
late rally.
