BPA holds steady for 11u Major Title

EMERSON, Ga. – BPA capped off an impressive tournament run that saw them run through the competition and culminated with an 8-1 victory over the East Cobb Astros. The bats and arms were both impressive all weekend as they finished with a 29-5 run differential over the four games that finished with a big win in the championship round.

Christian Ponte was outstanding in the victory on the mound for BPA. The pitcher was very impressive as he finished with five and two-thirds innings and he struck out seven batters. The pitches were tough to square up as he allowed only two hits during the start on the mound and also collected a hit and two walks at the plate.

The offense took center stage with eight total runs which included seven hits and five walks. Elijah Stephens went 2-4 with the lone extra base hit and Cole Prosek notched the most RBIs with two of them off a single.

Prosek was named the MVP of the tournament as he hit .583 with seven RBI and ended the event with hitting more extra base hits than singles, four to three. The MV-Pitcher of the tournament was Cooper Flemming of BPA. Shortstop Sam Schaeffer was a strong presence at the top of the lineup with one hit, though the one hit was a big one as it was a home run. Schaeffer totaled one home run, one RBI, and three runs scored. Grant Gardner also had a strong game as he was credited with the victory and also went 2-2 with two runs scored.

CCC tied the game in the top of the fifth inning with three runs to extend the game. Schaeffer scored the game winning run in the bottom of the seventh after walking, stealing second base, and then scoring on an error.

Georgia Braves Clinch Major Crown

EMERSON, Ga. – The Georgia Braves defeated the 12u Cougars by a score of 4-3 in the championship game of the 2018 PG 12U Invitational (Major Division). Each team showed throughout the tournament that they were going to be a tough out for their opponents.

It took four innings for the Braves offense to get going, but they came up when it mattered putting runs on the board in each of the final three innings. Down 1-0 in the fourth inning, the Braves scored their first run to tie the game. The run came on an error by the Cougars as Tristan Gabrels came across the plate to score. As mentioned the Braves would score another run in the fifth to take a 2-1 lead. The fifth inning run was scored by Joshua Bull on a Gabrels RBI groundout.

The sixth and final inning the Braves put two more runs across the plate that proved to be just enough to seal the deal. Colton Wilbanks would score on a wild pitch after singling to get on base. Cooper Johnson would double home another run this time Ajay Jones would come across. The score was 4-1 going into the bottom of the sixth inning. The Cougars would score 2 in the bottom half of the sixth, but that was not quite enough as the game concluded with a 4-3 score.

The Braves received outstanding starting pitching from Tristan Gabrels who pitched to the pitch count limit and earned a win. Gabrels struck out 5 and allowed just 2 earned runs in his 5 2/3 innings on the hill.

The damage was done early in the first inning by Reign as John Beverley scored on a wild pitch after walking to lead off the game. Collin Hart stepped to the plate with one out and a man on third base and proceeded to hit an inside-the-park home run to right field to put two more runs on the board making the score 3-1.

Welcome to another Perfect Game Mock Draft. This is not your typical mock draft as it features 15 different GMs drafting the first two rounds of the draft. Each member of the mock draft was assigned two teams and as such will be drafting all of the picks in the first two rounds for each responsible team. The actual draft order will be presented below and we will dive into how teams made their selections and how they feel about the players drafted. It is important to note that this is not how we think the draft will play out in almost any capacity. This is simply an exercise 4 months ahead of time with a large portion of the scouting staff and some picks fall under personal favorites, best available, and a multitude of other factors. Chicago White Sox 1:1 Roch Cholowsky, SS, UCLA | 1:41 Jack Radel, RHP, Notre Dame The White Sox don’t overthink here and select Roch Cholowsky, who has...

Lennex Minor (‘28 CA) absolutely destroys this offering to the PS for a 2-run shot. 2-4 on the day w/ 4 driven in. Athletic in the box w/ a quick stroke and strength throughout the frame. DII/DIII/NAIA Rankings Update: April 1

Nick Herfordt
Article Image
Welcome to another week of Perfect Game Small School baseball — and if you're looking for clarity at the top, you've come to the wrong place. Across all three classifications, the No. 1 spot is very much an open question, and nobody is sleeping comfortably right now. In NCAA Division II, Pittsburg State is stumbling at precisely the wrong moment, leaving the door cracked wide open for hungry challengers to come knocking. In the NAIA, defending national champion LSU Shreveport has dropped four straight and suddenly looks far more vulnerable than a program of their pedigree ever expects to be. And in NCAA Division III, the race for the top ranking is less a competition and more a ten-car pileup of elite programs, none of whom have done enough to pull away — and all of whom have done plenty to deserve it. Three classifications, three vacancies at the top, and a whole lot of...
