BPA holds steady for 11u Major Title

EMERSON, Ga. – BPA capped off an impressive tournament run that saw them run through the competition and culminated with an 8-1 victory over the East Cobb Astros. The bats and arms were both impressive all weekend as they finished with a 29-5 run differential over the four games that finished with a big win in the championship round.

Christian Ponte was outstanding in the victory on the mound for BPA. The pitcher was very impressive as he finished with five and two-thirds innings and he struck out seven batters. The pitches were tough to square up as he allowed only two hits during the start on the mound and also collected a hit and two walks at the plate.

The offense took center stage with eight total runs which included seven hits and five walks. Elijah Stephens went 2-4 with the lone extra base hit and Cole Prosek notched the most RBIs with two of them off a single.

Prosek was named the MVP of the tournament as he hit .583 with seven RBI and ended the event with hitting more extra base hits than singles, four to three. The MV-Pitcher of the tournament was Cooper Flemming of BPA. Flemming was outstanding during his one start of the event with six and one-third innings with no earned runs and struck out nine batters.

EMERSON, Ga. – In a very tense game that came down to a walkoff victory, the Lambert Longhorns outlasted CBC Frye by a final score of 6-5. A back-and-forth affair that featured a big comeback by CBC, although the Longhorns proved too much to overcome.

Shortstop Sam Schaeffer was a strong presence at the top of the lineup with one hit, though the one hit was a big one as it was a home run. Schaeffer totaled one home run, one RBI, and three runs scored. Grant Gardner also had a strong game as he was credited with the victory and also went 2-2 with two runs scored.

CCC tied the game in the top of the fifth inning with three runs to extend the game. Schaeffer scored the game winning run in the bottom of the seventh after walking, stealing second base, and then scoring on an error.

EMERSON, Ga. – The Georgia Braves defeated the 12u Cougars by a score of 4-3 in the championship game of the 2018 PG 12U Invitational (Major Division). Each team showed throughout the tournament that they were going to be a tough out for their opponents.

It took four innings for the Braves offense to get going, but they came up when it mattered putting runs on the board in each of the final three innings. As mentioned the Braves would score another run in the fifth to take a 2-1 lead. The fifth inning run was scored by Joshua Bull on a Gabrels RBI groundout.

The sixth and final inning the Braves put two more runs across the plate that proved to be just enough to seal the deal. Colton Wilbanks would score on a wild pitch after singling to get on base. Cooper Johnson would double home another run this time Ajay Jones would come across. The score was 4-1 going into the bottom of the sixth inning. The Cougars would score 2 in the bottom half of the sixth, but that was not quite enough as the game concluded with a 4-3 score.

Lambert scored a run in the top of the first and second innings, but Reign answered back each time with a 3 spot of their own. The damage was done early in the first inning by Reign as John Beverley scored on a wild pitch after walking to lead off the game. Collin Hart stepped to the plate with one out and a man on third base and proceeded to hit an inside-the-park home run to right field to put two more runs on the board making the score 3-1.

In the second inning Adain Bonner would double with one out to begin the next scoring threat. Gregorio Gonzalez would drive him with an RBI single of his own to push the Reign lead to 4-2. After a Brendan Keller single put himself and Gonzalez at the corners, Joe Crick would drive each of them in with a double of his own.

Reign Baseball would not look back as they would add two more insurance runs in the fourth inning to secure the championship victory.

MLK East Scout Notes Recap

‘28 OF Jakob Groeschel (OH) continues to impress with the bat on the circuit, picked up 2 2Bs in the first game today. Really athletic, went 4.4 on turn; easy to dream on all the traits. #MLKEast @PG_OhioValley pic.twitter.com/wOIwnGKnkg — Perfect Game Florida (@Florida_PG) January 17, 2026 2028 OF Jakob Groeschel (Springfield, Ohio) broke out at this event last year hitting a casual .909, and although he didn’t turn in quite the same performance, he hit a strong .462 with 4 extra-base hits, 5 walks, 5 bags and only struck out once. He’s a pretty dynamic athlete who can do a lot of things well, but the bat is the calling card as he just lives on the barrel and has no problem handling all kinds of pitching. It’s a simple swing, but he’s got fast hands and he can really impact the ball without being overly physical yet.  2030 RHP Michael Vazquez...

PG Draft: Under the Radar Preps As the spring season gets underway, the showcase circuit and early high-level tournaments have already provided our scouts with some intriguing first looks at this year’s crop of prospects. At the same time, we’ve been tracking the buzz among team evaluators, listening closely to the names that keep coming up in conversations and the players clubs are making sure they get eyes on this spring. Every year, a handful of prospects quietly slip beneath the radar during the fall and winter months, only to reemerge once the games start counting again. Sometimes it’s the result of a productive offseason in the weight room, a noticeable jump in velocity, or a step forward in skill development. Other times, it’s simply a player finally getting the opportunity and the stage to show what’s been building behind the scenes. The spring has a...

March 10 Perfect Game/Player of the Week:  Lorenzo Carrier, OF, Pitt  The Pitt Panthers (12-2) are off to one of the best starts in recent program history and their offense has performed as one of the best in the country.  For the season, they are averaging almost 12-runs per game and on their recent trip to the West Coast, Lorenzo Carrier went on the kind of hot streak that is hard to comprehend.  The 6-5/215 senior from Bear, DE was a one-man wrecking crew in their 4-wins last week, starting with the fact that he reached base safely in 17 of his 19 trips to the plate.  He collected 13 hits in 14 official at-bats, scoring 10 runs, with 4 walks, 2 triples, 4 home runs and he drove in an insane 19-runs.  Carrier has refined his approach, simplified his bat path and is creating massive power that has him putting up career numbers.  For the season, he is...

Collegiate Player Report Database While there will not be any new faces in this weeks Top 25, there is quite a bit of shakeup as the season, somehow, becomes even more unpredictable.  There were several teams in the poll that dropped weekend series and, in some cases, registered losing records in the last seven days.  There is sure to be more chaos this week as virtually every conference starts league play and the race for regular season titles begins.  The UCLA Bruins (13-2) remain No. 1 as their sizzling hot bats led the way to a perfect (4-0) week and they swept their first Big Ten series of the year.  As one of only two remaining undefeated teams in the nation, the Texas Longhorns (15-0) jump to No. 2 before they open SEC play this weekend in Austin.  No. 3 Georgia Tech and No. 4 Mississippi State both (14-2) hold their spots in the poll after both dropped a...
