18u BCS Scout Notes: Days 1-2

The first round of the 18u BCS National Championship kicked off with four games at JetBlue Park. Game 1 for Top Tier Hoffmann was led by a solid outing from Andrew Hoffmann. The 6-foot-5, 185-pound righthanded pitcher was dominant for three innings to start the tournament for Top Tier as they won in decisive fashion, 8-0. Hoffmann didn’t allow a hit and struck out three batters. The Oakland commit sat in the upper-80s while topping out at a tourney-best 92 mph. His arm action is long and loose while releasing from a high three-quarters arm slot getting some downhill running action on the fastball. He also located a 12-to-6 curveball with a tight spin well, landing it for quality strikes.

The Diamond Prospects made quick work in their first game winning 9-0. The victory was capped by a long blast from 6-foot-2, 175-pounder from Miami, Fla., Juan Osorio. Osorio looks to generate high amounts of leverage when meeting the ball out front. The lefty has a naturally lifted path to the ball and uses his lower half to create a lot of strength in the swing. One ball was hit to right field and it was a no-doubt home run.



Another big bat for the Diamond Prospects was JD Herrera, who employs a high contact approach and can manipulate the barrel to hit the ball to all fields. He had a big bases-loaded triple that would cap the victory. Herrera isn’t a big swinger but his approach will allow for a high OBP with the ability to hit for average.

Another blowout win by Academy Baseball Canada by a score of 8-0 was led by a big power bat. Martin Vincelli-Somard went 2-for-3 with a couple of RBI and a couple of runs scored in the game. His big hit came early in the game with a loud home run that left in hurry to left-center field. Vincelli-Somard is a thick and strong 6-foot-1, 215-pounder from Boisbriand, Quebec who’s committed to play at Sacramento State. He swings the bat with intent and has a big power potential. In his second at-bat he hit another long drive that would drift foul but had the distance. He would settle for a single.

Geraldo Soriano threw a complete game two-hitter giving the Orioles Scout Team a 1-0 victory on the opening day. Soriano, just 5-foot-11 and 195-pounds from Greenacres, Fla., has a lot of strength in his lower half and uses it well. He drives off the back leg down the mound and gets the fastball up to 89 mph. He utilizes a long and loose arm action with a high amount of fastballs landing for strikes. He mixes in a slurve-type breaker that got some swings and misses. In his seven innings the uncommitted righthander struck out 13 batters while walking just three.

It was a tough 1-0 loss for Chandler World 18u at the hands of Nelson Baseball School. It was a pitcher’s duel, as both sides tossed complete games and only six total hits were allowed.

For Chandler World Carlos Francisco took the mound. Francisco is a 6-foot-5, 215-pound righthander from Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. He maintains good balance throughout the delivery with some acceleration after the gather. His arm action is quick and gets the fastball up to 91 mph with late running life. He will mix in a sharp two-plane curveball with late depth. Francisco went six innings and allowed just two hits with eight strikeouts and the one run was unearned.

On the other side for Nelson Baseball School was 6-foot-2, 185-pound righty Zach Camp. Camp, a Swarthmore College commit from Smyrna, Ga., had similar numbers as he went seven innings and allowed just four hits with nine strikeouts. The high release point for Camp allows him to get some swing-and-miss on a downhill fastball that was sitting at 79-82 mph. He throws a short and tight slider with late break that can be difficult for hitters to pick up on.

After being up by two runs throughout most of the game the PRBAHS 12 team took a tough loss, falling 8-2. The starter for PRBAHS went 4 2/3 innings before being taken out of the game. Jeremy A. Adorno La Torre, a 5-foot-11, 145-pound righthander, was tough in the early going of the game. He has the ability to add more velocity with an increase in strength throughout the frame, but he already sits 83-86 with the fastball with some late run. He spots the ball well and works the edges. Mixing in a sharp 11-to-5 curveball with really good feel.

Luis Rodriguez was another guy with some tools for PRBAHS 12. The 5-foot-11, 185-pound third baseman showed some soft hands while working through the ball well. The arm strength is present and should work well at the corner. He is also able to handle the bat, though he may not have the power to stick at the corner. His control of the barrel is there and he’s able to drive the ball to all parts of the field. Rodriguez went 2-for-3 in the game with a good chance to stick at the top of an order.

On their way to their second win of the tournament, Nelson Baseball got a solid three innings of work from righty Nick Torres. The LIU Brooklyn commit stands at 6-foot and a slender 180-pounds with room to add strength at the next level. Torres doesn’t get a ton of swings and misses, as he only struck out four batters, but he does have good command of his pitches as well as a deceptive delivery. His quick arm action helps him get the fastball up to 88 mph and he mixed in a sharp slider as a solid secondary.

He’s a pretty dynamic athlete who can do a lot of things well, but the bat is the calling card as he just lives on the barrel and has no problem handling all kinds of pitching. The 2026 MLB Draft class is shaping up to be one of the better in recent memory and, potentially, the best class in the last decade. It’s led by UCLA superstar shortstop Roch Cholowsky, a true five-tool prospect who’s the early favorite for 1:1. One of the most popular pieces of industry feedback when constructing this list was some variation of “Roch is too low” or “go up on Roch” and he’s the best college prospect since 2019 when Adley Rutschman (Oregon State, Orioles) was the consensus No. 1 prospect. The playoffs are the show.  The championship belt changes that. Borrowed from professional wrestling, boxing and ultimate fighting, the belt travels the moment the holder loses — no brackets, no seeding, no second chances. A random Tuesday non-conference game in Milledgeville, Georgia  becomes a title fight. A spring trip to Florida becomes a gauntlet. We have another update to the National Top-50 after two weeks of even more games being played in the southern states along with seasons just starting to kick off across the country. We’re quickly approaching another stellar high school event, the NHSI in Cary, and with that will come even more movement in these rankings. St. John Bosco (CA) continues to hold firm at the No. 1 position after a 4-0 start to their season. Venice (FL) has been rolling throughout the early portion of the year and jumps up to No. 2 in the country.
