PG Invitational Quick Hits

Tommy Roldan (2023, Poolesville, Md.) was masterful on Saturday morning for US Elite as he threw 6 innings of one hit ball with 8 strikeouts. It was not just the stat line that was intriguing for Roldan as his 6-foot-1 frame oozes projection and his clean arm and easy delivery project for plenty more velocity as he matures. The lefthander topped out at 81 mph with his fastball and showed advanced feel for three pitches.

Kyle Crow (2023, Linden, Mich.) faced off with Roldan in the pitching matchup of the tournament. He was held to just 20 pitches on Saturday but what he showed was excellent velocity for his age along with a tall and projectable frame. The righthander topped out at 84 mph while sitting in the low-80s consistently from his loose arm action.

Cooper Milford (2023, Cumming, Ga.) is another tall and athletic pitcher with already impressive velocity for his age. He topped out at 82 mph on Saturday with a loose and online delivery with life to his fastball. There is a lot to like for the righthander from Georgia and he will be an interesting pitcher to follow for Team Georgia as he continues to mature.

Jack Brafa (2023, Medina, Tenn.) was at the 14u Southeast Showcase last weekend and was impressive on the mound and was extremely dominant during the 14u PG Invitational. Brafa has upper-70s velocity with the ability to maintain it well. He throws lots of strikes and commands the zone well like in this game where he pitched five innings with four strikeouts and no walks.

Cooper Pratt (2023, Oxford, Miss.) is a slick defender in the middle infielder for BPA who was able to showcase his actions over the weekend along with his smooth swing at the plate. Pratt made the trip from Mississippi to Georgia and was very impressive in his second Perfect Game event.

Matt Fox (2023, Huntington Beach, Calif.) may have traveled the farthest of any player in the event coming all the way from California but the lanky primary shortstop showed lots of projection on the mound over the weekend. Fox is listed at 6-foot, 145-pounds and appears even taller than that creating a steep downhill plane on his fastball that ranged from 75-77 mph. He throws really easy with proper lower half drive down the mound and advanced feel for a 12-to-6 curveball.

Keondre Fields (2023, Nesbit, Miss.) is a physically advanced athlete who was outstanding with the bat on Saturday ripping a pair of doubles and also featuring a fastball up to 82 mph on the mound. A strong 6-foot, 170-pound frame and a high leg kick allows for Fields to create big-time raw bat speed for his age and a swing that has potential power in the future.

Justice Haynes (2023, Alpharetta/Burford, Ga.), the son of former NFL player Verron Haynes, was one of the most versatile prospects from the weekend. He showcased great athleticism in the outfield with great first-step instincts. He also showed his arm strength on the mound with a fluid, easy arm action as his fastball sat in the mid-80s.  The lefty worked down in the zone all afternoon and consistently hit his spots. Haynes also impressed at the plate with multiple hits this weekend. Displaying great speed on the basepaths, he also caused problems for opposing defenses.

Dylan Lonergan (2023, Duluth, Ga.) w as a dominant physical presence this weekend. His build is mature with room to grow. He impressed both on the mound and at the plate. The righthand pitcher sat in the mid to upper-80s with a couple fastballs topping out at 88 mph. He boasts a big leg kick with downhill plane to the plate from an over-the-top delivery. Not only did he produce on the mound, he showed power at the plate, driving in multiple runs during the weekend.

Tyler Shelton (2023, Kingston, Ga.) impressed all weekend as a utility-type player. He flashed solid instincts in the middle infield with a great first step, attacking the baseball at all times. He came up clutch in bracket play with a three-run double late in the game. His presence at the plate was confident and he carried that onto the mound. Showcasing an upper-70s to low-80s fastball with some arm-side run. His curveball was his strikeout pitch with big 12-to-6 bite. He constantly was around the zone and was not afraid to work both corners of the plate.

Dalton Kuhn (2022, Tallahassee, Fla.) was a great defensive catcher with a solid skill-set. He received the ball well, was stealing strikes for his pitchers and showed off low 2.0-second pop times. He back-picked a runner and threw out two running within a few innings late in bracket play. He also proved to be tough out at the plate with some power behind him. Kuhn proved to be a true power-hitting catcher this weekend.

Carlos Elian Martinez (2022, Coamo, Puerto Rico) offers a big lefthanded presence on the diamond. The tall, strong figure showed his dominance at the plate as the smooth swinging lefty uses all fields and showed big power with multiple extra-base hits late into bracket play. He also showed off his defensive skill-set in the outfield with an outstanding arm and great reads. He oozed confidence in all aspects of the game this weekend.

Nicolas Perez (2022, Isabella, Puerto Rico) proved to be one of the top defenders from the weekend. He showed off the leather with great footwork beneath him. His arm showed to be elite for his age making multiple plays up the middle and in the hole. His defensive presence was not all he had to show as he proved to be worthy at the plate. He showed an open stance with high hands looking to drive the baseball. Perez racked up multiple RBIs this weekend and proved to be a dominant presence.

Riley Jackson (2023, Melbourne, Fla.) showcased a strong frame behind the plate. His defensive skill-set was beyond his years while showing off a great arm with a low 2.0-second pop time.  This gritty catcher also proved to be an offensive threat with big power. He showed off that power with a big home run late in bracket play. He had a relaxed, open stance allowing his hands to get thru the baseball. All in all, Jackson proved to be a true power-hitting catcher.

MLK East Scout Notes Recap

‘28 OF Jakob Groeschel (OH) continues to impress with the bat on the circuit, picked up 2 2Bs in the first game today. Really athletic, went 4.4 on turn; easy to dream on all the traits. #MLKEast @PG_OhioValley pic.twitter.com/wOIwnGKnkg — Perfect Game Florida (@Florida_PG) January 17, 2026 2028 OF Jakob Groeschel (Springfield, Ohio) broke out at this event last year hitting a casual .909, and although he didn’t turn in quite the same performance, he hit a strong .462 with 4 extra-base hits, 5 walks, 5 bags and only struck out once. He’s a pretty dynamic athlete who can do a lot of things well, but the bat is the calling card as he just lives on the barrel and has no problem handling all kinds of pitching. It’s a simple swing, but he’s got fast hands and he can really impact the ball without being overly physical yet.  2030 RHP Michael Vazquez...

PG Draft: Under the Radar Preps As the spring season gets underway, the showcase circuit and early high-level tournaments have already provided our scouts with some intriguing first looks at this year’s crop of prospects. At the same time, we’ve been tracking the buzz among team evaluators, listening closely to the names that keep coming up in conversations and the players clubs are making sure they get eyes on this spring. Every year, a handful of prospects quietly slip beneath the radar during the fall and winter months, only to reemerge once the games start counting again. Sometimes it’s the result of a productive offseason in the weight room, a noticeable jump in velocity, or a step forward in skill development. Other times, it’s simply a player finally getting the opportunity and the stage to show what’s been building behind the scenes. The spring has a...

March 10 Perfect Game/Player of the Week:  Lorenzo Carrier, OF, Pitt  The Pitt Panthers (12-2) are off to one of the best starts in recent program history and their offense has performed as one of the best in the country.  For the season, they are averaging almost 12-runs per game and on their recent trip to the West Coast, Lorenzo Carrier went on the kind of hot streak that is hard to comprehend.  The 6-5/215 senior from Bear, DE was a one-man wrecking crew in their 4-wins last week, starting with the fact that he reached base safely in 17 of his 19 trips to the plate.  He collected 13 hits in 14 official at-bats, scoring 10 runs, with 4 walks, 2 triples, 4 home runs and he drove in an insane 19-runs.  Carrier has refined his approach, simplified his bat path and is creating massive power that has him putting up career numbers.  For the season, he is...

Collegiate Player Report Database While there will not be any new faces in this weeks Top 25, there is quite a bit of shakeup as the season, somehow, becomes even more unpredictable.  There were several teams in the poll that dropped weekend series and, in some cases, registered losing records in the last seven days.  There is sure to be more chaos this week as virtually every conference starts league play and the race for regular season titles begins.  The UCLA Bruins (13-2) remain No. 1 as their sizzling hot bats led the way to a perfect (4-0) week and they swept their first Big Ten series of the year.  As one of only two remaining undefeated teams in the nation, the Texas Longhorns (15-0) jump to No. 2 before they open SEC play this weekend in Austin.  No. 3 Georgia Tech and No. 4 Mississippi State both (14-2) hold their spots in the poll after both dropped a...
