GA Super Qualifier Quick Hits

Jeffrey Heuer (2023, Greensboro, Ga.) was outstanding on Friday night for the 643 DP Cougars and saw his fastball reach a new best of 84 mph. The 6-foot-1 righthander is high projectable and his delivery is extremely clean for his young age. The arm is quick and online while staying controlled and balanced throughout. His feel for the strike zone is advanced already displaying three pitches for strikes.

Kameron Douglas (2022, Woodstock, Ga.) is a young ninth grader whose skillset projects extremely well at the plate as well as in the outfield. Douglas has a line drive swing plane and a quick bat at the plate. He swings with intent to drive the baseball creating leverage. Friday night he smoked a double to the pull side gap showcasing that fast bat with his hands moving quickly to the baseball.



Justin Best (2023, Cornelius, N.C.) is a lefthanded hitter with plenty of projection as well. His swing is really loose and clean with plenty of bat speed. Best made the trip from North Carolina this weekend and showcased a nice approach at the plate looking to hit the ball to the middle of the field on a line.

Bransen Powell (2023, Locust Grove, Ga.) has loud tools already at the 14u level and is only going to continue to improve with maturity. Powell has some of the top bat speed in the entire class and actions that play wherever you put him in the field. He smoked a triple on Saturday to the opposite field gap displaying his advanced bat speed and foot quickness. In the same game he also topped out at 83 mph on the mound.

Parker Marlatt (2023, Dacula, Ga.) tossed five innings of nice work on the mound filling up the strike zone and displaying one of the better breaking balls of the event. His fastball topped out at 82 mph and his breaking ball has late 12-to-6 shape that helped him tally over a strike out an inning. Marlatt is not overly physical at 5-foot-9, but his mechanics are clean and his arm speed projects for plenty more velocity in the future.




Rob Duvall (2023, Lawrenceville, Ga.) has been noted in the past for his sheer ability to hit and this event was no different. Duvall is a physically gifted lefthanded hitter with the potential to hit for big-time power in the future. His bat speed combined with strength allows for him to drive the ball to parts of the field that not many his age can. Duvall connected on an opposite field double in Saturday’s action that landed on the warning track and really gave a glimpse of the type of juice in his lefthanded stroke.

Cody Funk (2022, McDonough, Ga.) proved to be one of the top catchers in the tournament with solid defense and a big presence at the plate. He was very confident at the plate with a relaxed stance and high hands. He showed he could drive the ball to all fields. Funk displayed big power potential with a deep double in the right-center gap. He had a great showing behind the plate as well with active hands and a good arm. Look for him to fill out physically and show out as a power hitting catcher in the future.

Alex Urias (2023, Cumming, Ga.) continues to show up week in and week out. His presence at the plate is obvious and he’s a threat to all opposing teams. He takes a short & simple approach at the plate with pop to all fields. Urias showed some power as well with a big double to the left-center gap after falling behind in the count. His defensive skills showed as well with smooth actions at first base, a very accurate arm and a great glove  with a couple double plays turned and multiple scoops throughout the tourney. He has also showed very well on the mound at other events but weather did not permit an outing.  Look for Urias to turn into a top prospect with his set of skills already prominent at a young age.

David Luigs (2022, Marietta, Ga.) has a huge frame with a strong physical presence. He showed his strength at the plate with some long fly balls and hard line drives. Luigs employs a short stride into his swing with high hands and proved he could drive the ball to all fields with power. He started a game on the bump as well and pounded the strike zone with five strikeouts. He showed a low-70s fastball and a low-60s 12-to-6 curveball. Look for him to continue to dominate at the plate with his big bat in the future.

Logan Bryson (2022, Woodstock, Ga.) proved to be a top pitcher in the event this weekend with a big frame with some physicality in his pitching style. With a big leg kick and a three-quarters arm slot, he shut down one of the best hitting teams in the tournament. He showed a high-70s fastball throughout the duration of his start and also mixed in a sharp curveball in the mid-60s with some bite to it. He was not only a pitcher as he showed some confidence at the plate. Bryson had a relax stance with strong hands at the plate. A line drive type hitter, he hit a bullet back up the middle from a seven-pitch at-bat. Look for him to continue to grow and become a dominant presence on the mound.

Cannon Duncan (2022, Suwanee, Ga.) was a clear, physical specimen with his frame towering over the competition and he proved to be a force at the plate both on offense and on defense. This smooth swinging righty showed a long barrel presence in the zone and had pop to all fields. He showed his power as well with some balls driven deep into the gaps. His presence behind the plate also stood out. With a great arm, he had no stolen bases against him in a close matchup Saturday and no passed balls either. Look for him to continue to grow his game and to be a force at the plate as well as defensively.

Brian Hardaway (2022, Atlanta, Ga.) showed to be a speedster in the outfield with unreal range. He made multiple plays throughout the weekend including a huge diving play to his throwing arm side to save two-plus runs late in a one-run ballgame. He also showed well as a great leadoff type hitter at the plate with great patience. He knows his speed well and is a line drive hitter. Look for him to continue to dominate in the outfield with his speed and become a prominent leadoff guy.

Seth Buchanan (2023, Lebanon, Va.) proved to be one of the smoothest middle infielders in the tourney this weekend. He made every play with ease and showed a very accurate arm from all arm angles. His leadership showed to be a big plus as well on the diamond. At the plate Buchanan displayed a confident approach, a wide stance and a little toe tap to help with his timing. He showed some power as well with a deep fly ball to center field. A fast-twitch ballplayer, Buchanan will continue to grow physically and it will help improve his already advanced present skills.

Tyler Neises (2023, Rocky Face, Ga.) has a lanky frame with a great presence on the mound. The righty uses a big leg kick with a three-quarters arm slot, throwing across his body and hiding the ball well against opposing hitters who struggled to pick it up early. He liked to work downhill and pounded the bottom half of the strike zone with a low-80s fastball topping out at 83. His off-speed stuff proved to be on as well with a mid-70s changeup and a mid-60s curveball. With his body type and fluid motion, look for him to grow into a top pitching prospect.

Another week of conference play down and Johnson County continues there tear through the spring of 2026, they retain the top spot with Gaston nipping their heels at number 2 for the third consecutive week. McLennan jumps up to number 3 with a big series sweep over rival Texas powerhouse, Weatherford. Out west, Cochise just keeps rolling in the desert and California looks to be hotly contested all the way down the final stretch. A couple of debut appearances down the board with Harford, CCF, and Linn Benton all earning their spot on our top 25 for the first time in the first week of April. Brooks Mitchell-Birdsell (2027, Atkins, Iowa) was solid on both sides of the ball this weekend. He was able to show a clean move working into it, with the feel to impact it out in front and drive hard through contact. He had good barrel accuracy with feel to drive the ball well, especially working pull-side. He was 4-for-8 on the weekend with a double to his credit, driving in 7 runs as well. Mitchell-Birdsell also put together a good outing on the mound, delivering 2 innings of scoreless work with 3 punchouts. April 7th Perfect Game/Player of the Week:  Andrew Williamson, OF, UCF  The UCF Knights (20-9) are coming off one of their biggest series victories in years when they went to Morgantown and took down the Mountaineers to take control of the Big 12 regular season standings.  The offense put on quite the performance and Andrew Williamson set the tone by leaving the yard in his first at-bat of the weekend launching a towering home run over the centerfield wall.  The 6-0/195 lefty from St. Petersburg, FL has one of the sweetest strokes in the college game today and when he goes, so do the Knights.  In the 3-game series, the junior collected 6 hits in his 10 at-bats, scoring 6 runs, on 5 walks, a double and he launched 3 home runs all told.  While he had a stretch earlier in the season where he was searching for his stroke a bit, he is getting locked in at the...
