TSD Elite collects Super25 title

FORT MYERS, Fla.- A late rally in the seventh inning crowned TSD Elite 15u champions at the PG Super25 Florida Super Qualifier. Elite slipped by Legends Baseball in the title game Saturday by a score of 3-1. The team tallied just one loss in the tournament, which came in Friday’s pool play against SWFL Nation 2022, Elite trailing by just a run.

The Legends (Sarasota, Fla.) held TSD Elite (Caguas, Puerto Rico) 1-0 in the title game up until Elite scored three runs in the top of the seventh to earn the championship title. 

Abdiel Rivera (2021, Manati, Puerto Rico) started off the seventh inning with a base hit to center field and would eventually score from Juan Ramos (2021, Aguas Buenas, Puerto Rico). Jaylen Mateo (2021, Coamo, Puerto Rico) led the way for Elite’s offense going 2-for-3 with a base hit to right field where both Mateo and Abdiel Rodriguez would eventually score from Jeremy López's (2022, Humacai, Puerto Rico)  hit to left field. López hit .400 through five games. Together with Lopez, teammate Raul Torres (2021, Caguas, Puerto Rico) earned an RBI for Elite.

Elite’s Ramos earned the win allowing just four hits and three walks while striking out six batters in his complete seven-inning game. Ramos worked consistently in the 71-76 mph range and complemented his fastball with a 65 mph curveball.

The tournaments MV-Pitcher was earned by Pedro J Vega Rodriguez (2021, Sabana Grande, Puerto Rico) Vega Rodriguez did an exceptional job on the mound this weekend; he opened the tournament pitching three innings, striking out four batters, and only allowing a hit and a walk. Vegas Rodriguez also earned the win in the semifinals allowing six hits and no walks while striking out five batters in his five innings. The 6-foot-2 righthander worked consistently in the 74-79 mph range and complemented his fastball with a 66-mph curveball.

As for the Legends, Christopher Lebron (2022, Wesley Chapel, Fla.) pitched allowing six hits and three walks while striking out one in his complete-seven inning game. Lebron worked consistently in the 73-77 mph range and complemented his fastball with a 66 mph curveball. His teammate Austin Coultas, who is also a Wesley Chapel native, led the way for the Legends’ offense going 1-for-3 with a run scored. Coultas hit .333 through five games and is ranked as a High Follow by Perfect Game. 

The tournament’s MVP was earned by Legends’ Zachary Bice (2022, Wesley Chapel, Fla.). In the opening game, Bice led the way offensively going a perfect 3-for-3 with a double, a run scored, and four RBIs for the Legends. Bice's quarterfinals performance also put him the team on the boards led the way going 3-for-4 with another double and run scored in the game.

The Legends run batted in came from Dillion Lewis.Teammates, Mason McDougall (2022, Wesley Chapel, Fla.) and Jacob Martin (2021, Wesley Chapel, Fla.) each went 1-for-2 in the game.

TSD Elite remains in Fort Myers tomorrow opening the 2019 PG 15u World Series Qualifier. Elite will take on the Florida Burn 2022 Doughty at the CenturyLink Sports complex Sunday at 10:15 a.m. ET. The winner of this event will receive a paid berth to the PG 15U World Series in Sanford, Fla. at the Boombah Sports Complex July 20-24.
