East Cobb Astros win third straight Super25 title

FORT MYERS, Fla. – A late rally by the D-BAT Elite – Clementz was too little, too late to overthrow the East Cobb Astros 16u in the 16U Super25 National Championship. The East Cobb Astros on the other hand won their third straight 16u PG Super25 National Championship, and their fourth in five years, with their 4-3 win in the title game Friday.

Tournament MVP Jared Jones proved why he was deserving of the event honors throughout the title game. Jones went 3-for-3 at the plate in the championship game, needing just a home run to complete the cycle. Jones, the No. 12 player overall in the 2022 class, hit .455 throughout the tournament, tallying six extra-base hits including two home runs over the week.

East Cobb opened the scoring with an RBI single off the bat of Bryant Herring. Tennessee commit Nathan Smith added a two RBI single to extended the Astros lead to 3-0 before the inning ended.

D-BAT Elite managed to get a run back in the top of the fifth inning following an error by East Cobb. Jones managed to get a run back for East Cobb in the bottom half of the inning with an RBI triple to center field.

Jacob Stephens put the lone blemish on Will Robbin’s fantastic start when he hit a towering two-run home run to left field to cut East Cobb’s lead to just one. Following Stephens’ home run, Jagger Schattle roped a single to left and suddenly, D-BAT Elite was threatening to tie the game.

Over 6 1/3 innings of work, the Astros’ Robbins fanned eight batters and allowed just two earned runs on his way to earning the win. The Cumming, Ga. native sat in the 81-85 mph range throughout the ballgame.

Dylan Rogers paved the way for the D-BAT Elite throughout the tournament, throwing 11 1/3 innings without allowing an earned run. The Most Valuable Pitcher of the 16u PG Super25 National Championship also struck out 10 hitters while allowing just three hits.

Ostingers finishes strong week on top

FORT MYERS, Fla. – Ostingers Baseball Academy secured the 17u PG Super25 National Championship with a 9-3 victory over LIB 2020 Prime on Friday. The win capped off a 6-1 week in Fort Myers for the successful Ostingers program.

Garrett Scavelli opened the scoring in the bottom of the first inning with an RBI single to left field to give LIB Prime a 1-0 lead. For Ostingers Baseball Academy, Tyler Castelli hit a triple in the top of the second inning and was driven in on a sacrifice fly to center field off the bat of Malachi Woodside.

Brock Wilken highlighted the championship game with a 3-for-4 performance at the plate, driving in four runs on the afternoon. The Wake Forest commit hit a grand slam in the third inning to break the tie and bust the game open for Ostingers. As a result, Wilken took home the Most Valuable Player honors from the 17u PG Super25 National Championship after posting a .400 batting average with 11 RBI, five doubles and that big home run.

While LIB Prime got a run back in the bottom of the third inning, Ostingers Baseball Academy tacked on three more runs in the top of the fourth. Ostingers scored two runs on errors before Sean (Grady) Maguire scorched a single up the middle and plated the third run of the inning.

LIB Prime threatened to tack on several runs in the bottom of the fifth inning, but were unable to truly capitalize. John Devito doubled to lead off the inning and was followed by three consecutive walks from Patrick Sanchez, Nicholas Dagnello and Scavelli. For Ostingers Baseball Academy, Luis Tyler Misla settled in on the mound and retired the next three hitters, leaving the bases loaded and limiting the damage.

Ostingers added an insurance run in the top of the seventh inning to push the score to 9-3. In the bottom half of the inning, LIB was looking for one last sign of life and a late rally. Dagnello got something going with a double to right field, but his team was unable to string a rally together, leaving him stranded on second when the final out was recorded.

Cole Stallings led the way for Ostingers Baseball Academy on the mound throughout the week, throwing seven innings, striking out seven batters while allowing just one hit. The Stetson commit took home the Most Valuable Pitcher honors for his efforts.
