East MLK Champions Crowned

Central Pointe Christian Academy Comes Out On Top in Upperclass

FORT MYERS, Fla. –  Central Pointe Christian Academy used a two-run fifth inning to take the lead in the PG East MLK Upperclass Championship, and tacked on two more in the bottom of the sixth to stretch the lead to what ended up being the final, 4-1.

Joseph Montalvo gave Central Pointe six innings on the mound in the championship game against runner-up SWFL Panthers, allowing only two hits and one run (unearned) while striking out 10 hitters.

Montalvo was named the MVPitcher of the tournament for his effort in the title game.

Central Pointe got contributions all up and down its lineup in the championship game, getting hits from five different places in the batting order.

“It’s a really deep lineup, which is exciting and challenging,” Central Pointe head coach Julio Figueroa said. “These kids have natural ability. They’re really good at the plate. But at times they show their age, it’s a really young group. But they’re gritty and give you quality at-bats.”

Luis Villanueva was 1-for-3 in the championship game for Central Pointe, and hit .563 overall in the tournament. He knocked six singles, two doubles, a home run, and nine RBI on his way to an MVP performance.

Figueroa and his club start the year out with a win, something they hope to carry on throughout the year.

“It feels great,” Figueroa said. “We started in the fall and knew we had a lot of talent. But we also knew we were going to have to do all the little things right. We were good enough this weekend, but we’ve still got a ways to go.”

Beast Mode Claims Another PG Title at Underclass

FORT MYERS, Fla. – A 10-2 run-rule victory for Beast Mode Prime 2021 over Top Tier Roos American 2023 does nothing to show how competitive the title game in the Underclass division of the PG East MLK Championship really was. It was 2-1 Beast Mode through three and a half innings, before they tacked on two more in the bottom of the fourth to make the lead three.

Top Tier had already scored one run in the top of the fifth before loading the bases with no outs. Steven Milam, a 2019 14u Select Festival participant and two-hole hitter for Top Tier, laced a line drive toward the middle of the field, and for a moment looked like he had tied the game.

Beast Mode second baseman Aidan Stewart snagged the ball out of the air, however, and in less than a few seconds had stepped on second base and tossed the ball to first base to complete a triple play.

Beast Mode’s 4-2 lead had been saved, the Top Tier rally had been stymied, and the wind was officially out of the sails.

Stewart’s squad added another run in the bottom of the fifth to stretch the lead to 5-2, and Santiago Barcelo’s double in the bottom of the sixth capped off the five-run inning, completing the 10-2 run-rule championship game victory.

If it weren’t for Jace Jones’ performance on the mound for Beast Mode in its semifinal game, the championship game may not have even been an option for the club. Jones went six innings, striking out 10 batters against Hit Factory PRO, while only allowing one earned run.

Jones was named the MVPitcher of the Underclass event.

“We were just ready to go,” Beast Mode head coach Pete Sass said. “Amped up. It was a fun atmosphere. This was the goal when we came here. Leave no doubt. That’s what we try to do.”

For Sass’ team, it was momentum carried over from last fall that helped carry them to a title.

“We won [Labor Day Southeast] last fall, and carried it into this tournament,” he said. “We’re missing a lot of pitchers but we were going to be ready to roll.”

Wesley Mendes, who helped to anchor Top Tier’s lineup, was named the MVP of the Underclass tournament. Mendes hit a video game-like .611 over the course of the tournament, leading the field with 11 hits.

Aces Elite Comes From Behind for Freshman Title

FORT MYERS, Fla. – Aces Elite Outlaws 2023 used four scoreless relief innings out of Christopher Carroll to hang around just long enough against Resmondo Baseball to take home a come-from-behind victory in the championship game of the PG East MLK Freshman event, 6-3. Resmondo scored three runs in the bottom of the third inning to go out in front, 3-0.

Aces Elite answered back in the top of the sixth inning, however, and pushed across six runs in the inning.

Devin Catoni had the biggest hit of the inning, a three-run double that gave Aces Elite the lead for good.

Chris Knier hit .667 over the course of the tournament for Resmondo, with 10 hits in total to go along with seven runs and five RBI. He added 4 2/3 innings on the mound, striking out six. Knier was named the MVP of the tournament.

Christopher Blanco tossed seven innings for the Aces Elite during the tournament, striking out nine across two outing and allowing only four hits. He was named MVPitcher for his efforts.

Florida Hurricanes Cruise to 14u Title

FORT MYERS, Fla. – 10 runs in the bottom of the first inning was enough of a cushion for Florida Hurricanes Platinum to cruise to a 12-0 victory in the championship game of the PG 14u East MLK Championship game versus the Parkland Pokers.

15 batters in total came to the plate for the Hurricanes in the first inning. Seven Hurricane hitters notched at least one hit in the game, with Niko Benestad leading the way with three.

Maddix Simpson had a hit and scored two runs in the title game. Simpson hit .500 for the tournament along with five walks, six runs, three RBI, and five stolen bases. He was named the MVP of the tournament after the Hurricanes won the championship game.

Colin Cartagena was named the MVPitcher of the tournament for the Hurricanes after throwing five innings of shutout ball across two outings for the club. Cartagena struck out five in just three innings of work against the Tampa Marauders while not allowing a single baserunner, and in two innings of work against Little Caesars, struck out three while allowing just one hit.

TBT Ballers Hold Off Florida Heat in 13u Title Game

FORT MYERS, Fla. – A true back-and-forth shootout between TBT Ballers National and Florida Heat Baseball saw the Ballers come out on top, 8-5 in a thriller of a championship game.

Florida Heat took a 1-0 lead after one inning and carried it into the third inning before TBT scored two in the top of the third to take a 2-1 lead. TBT added another run in the top of the fourth, two in the top of the fifth, and three in the sixth to take a commanding 8-1 lead.

Two Heat players started the bottom of the seventh inning by reaching base on errors, and Nicolas Lopez singled to put two on with the lead at 8-2.

Christopher Hemmings tripled later in the inning to push the score to 8-4 and later scored to get the Heat to within three, but the rallied died there.

Danny Machado threw six innings in the championship game for TBT, striking out seven and allowing two runs, only one of them earned. At the plate, he hit .500 for the tournament, including a home run, 10 runs, six RBI, and six stolen bases.

Lopez had two hits for the Heat in the championship game, but it was his work on the mound throughout the tournament that distinguished him among his peers.

Lopez tossed 6 2/3 innings of scoreless ball across two outings, striking out three in that time while only allowing one baserunner the entire time. He was named the MVPitcher of the 13u tournament.

Kangaroo Court Roos Take Home 12u Title at MLK East

FORT MYERS, Fla. – Three runs in the top of the fourth inning were all Kangaroo Court Roos 12u American needed to secure a 3-2 win in the championship game of the PG 12u East MLK Championship against FCA Blueclaws Hannah.

Nathaniel Roldan singled in the fourth to push across the first run of the inning, Landon Serrano doubled right after, and Danilo Soto followed Serrano with a single that scored both baserunners.

Serrano scored eight runs in the tournament and knocked in three, and did plenty of good work on the mound as well. Between two outings, he tossed 6 1/3 innings, striking out 10 and only walking two. He was named MVP of the tournament for his efforts.

Christopher Reali was named the MVPitcher of the tournament for FCA, tossing a six-inning shutout on Sunday against Southern Nationals. Reali struck out 10 in the outing, allowing only a pair of hits and one walk.

TBT Phillies Scout run rules for second straight MLK East Championship The 14U TBT Phillies Scout Team overtook A3 Academy Futures 14-6 in the final game to win their second straight 2026 MLK East Championship. Though the skies were blue and the sun was out in Fort Myers, Florida, the air was very chilly. The wind whipped through the palm trees as players, parents and friends piled into the 5-Plex Player Development Complex bundled up in blankets, hoodies and beanies.  The A3 Academy Futures were first up to bat - and the TBT Phillies struggled through the first frame. The first run came across on a balk; the second came soon after off a double from Gabriel Messing. “I was surprised that they scored right away off the jump,” Kingston George said, an outfielder for TBT Phillies Scout and this year’s MVP of the 14U East MLK championship. “We were kind of quiet...

Demystifying the Curveball, Pitch Counts, and Weighted Balls- Part 1 You know what I love about the holidays? Good food, time with family, and the unspoken rule that nobody brings up religion or politics at the dinner table.   Why? Because they're powder kegs. Topics that bring out deep-seated beliefs and strong emotions.  Well, I accidentally lit one of those powder kegs recently, except it wasn't at the dinner table. It was on social media.   Our team posted a short clip of me at Boot Camp making what I thought was a pretty straightforward point: simply avoiding the curveball is far from a guarantee of arm health.   I wasn't trying to be provocative. I was just stating what I believed to be obvious after 30 years of doing this work.  But boy, did a few people have problems with it.   It became one of the most discussed posts in Ranch history....

MLK West Scout Notes: Days 1-2 Markus Chandler, RHP, Westside HS Class of 2027 A little on the undersized side as a sub 6 footer, but Chandler can generate some velo and spin.  Spun 3 frames of hitless ball for Spects National with zero walks and 6 strikeouts.  Committed to Kansas State, the righty ran the fastball to 92, living 89-92 pumping the zone with 75 percent strikes.  Looked like two different breaking balls, with the SL 80/81 (spin in 2500’s) and curveball 75/76.  No hard contact, little contact at all off the righty in this dominant outing. To follow up the pitching performance, Chandler swung the bat well on Championship Monday (Trademark Pending) with 5 RBI and three hits on the day, regularly on the barrel.  Trevor Alons, RHP, Centennial HS Class of 2028 Lean framed sophomore with a quick, whippy arm.  Playing up a few classes, you might...
