Home Plate Chili Dogs Crowned Champs in Low Scoring Affair


MARIETTA, Ga. – The 15U Southeast Select Championship came to a close Monday night with the Home Plate Chili Dogs 15U Dyal and Georgia Jackets 16U American facing off in the championship game. It was a low scoring pitching duel between the two teams as Home Plate ultimately came out victorious with a 2-1 win. The Chili Dogs completed a clean sweep of the tournament field going 6-0 during the week.



The Chili Dogs were not tested in their pool play games finishing with 30 runs scored and allowing only four and were awarded the third seed with a first-round bye in bracket play. In the quarterfinal, they came out with a 9-1 win behind their starting pitcher, Bryce Alewine, working five innings while striking out four. They were powered to a 4-1 win in the semifinal game over 643 DP Bishop behind Kaden Brown’s big day at the plate going 2 for 3 including a home run.

In the championship game, the Jackets opened up the scoring in the top of the first after a leadoff single by Kevin Jackson Jr. who came around to score on Manny Ramos’ double. The Chili Dogs answered in the bottom half of the first with a run of their own to tie the game. Kaleb Cost reached base with a leadoff walk and moved to third base on consecutive passed balls. With one out, Wayne King drove in Cost with a self-sacrificing grounder to the right side of the infield.

The second inning went by quickly with starting pitchers, Brandon Fears (Jackets) and Avery Brown (Home Plate) sitting down the opposing hitters in order. The Chili Dogs scored the final run of the game in the bottom of the third inning, as James Dubose singled to start the inning and moved to second base after a sacrifice bunt by Kaleb Cost. Wayne King was the hero for Home Plate with an RBI single scoring Dubose and ultimately giving them all they needed to win the championship.

Relief pitcher, Evan Harrah, was excellent in his two innings of work closing the door on the Jackets batters. The Jackets had an opportunity in the bottom half of the seventh with two men on with one out but were unable to score.

The Home Plate Chili Dogs 15U Dyal are 2020 PG 15U Southeast Select Champions.

Mason Trucks, of the Home Plate Chili Dogs, was awarded the tournament MVPitcher this week with eight innings pitched, five strikeouts, allowing no earned runs.

Manny Ramos, of the Georgia Jackets, was awarded the tournament MVP this week with a .667 batting average, seven singles, three doubles, five runs, seven RBIs, three stolen bases, and a .722 OBP.

GA Bombers Use Big 6th Inning to Win Southeast Championship



MARIETTA, Ga. – The 2020 PG 16U Southeast Select Championship field started with 36 teams Friday June 24th but was cut down to the final two teams standing Monday afternoon. The Georgia Bombers 16U and the Ninth Inning Royals Honeycutt 16U battled it out for the championship trophy on field one at the East Cobb Baseball Complex. The Bombers came out with a 10-5 victory after a seven run sixth inning for their second PG championship of the summer.

The Bombers completed pool play undefeated while scoring 22 runs and managing to only allow one. In the quarterfinals, they took care of the East Cobb Colt .45’s with a 11-1 victory. Kayne Jinks(3), Tyler Triche(3), Nicholas Hollified(3), and Riley Stanford(2) all had multiple RBIs. The semifinal game presented the Bombers with their first test of the week facing off against Team Elite 16U Prime. Starting pitcher, Lawson Gailey, worked efficiently to keep the Team Elite bats quiet with 6.2 innings pitched while striking out six. This 4-1 win propelled them into the championship game against Ninth Inning.

The scoring did not take long with Ninth Inning scoring one run in the top of the first. Tournament MVP, Cayden Gaskin, singled and then scored after Ryan McTighe reached first base on an error. The Bombers bats did not wake up until the bottom half of the second when they tied the game 1-1. Patrick McCavitt reached base safely after a bunt and then made it to third base after stealing second and reaching third on a pass ball. Alex Urias singled scoring McCavitt for their first run.

Starting pitcher for the Bombers, Brett Barfield, sat down the Ninth Inning hitters in order in the top of the third inning. The Bombers then scored two more runs to make the score 3-1 in the bottom of the third as Parker Brosius and Tyler Triche both doubled to start off the inning and came around to score after a timely two RBI single by Riley Stanford. The Ninth Inning bats responded in the top half of the fourth with two runs of their own tying the game 3-3. Ryan McTighe singled followed by two walks in a row to load the bases with no outs. Sadir Ryan singled to tie the game scoring Ryan McTighe and Aaron Lopez. With two men on, Matthew Navarro reached first base on a bunt, and with the bases loaded again in the inning, Andrews Opata was hit by a pitch scoring another run, which ultimately regained the lead 4-3 for Ninth Inning.

The Bombers were threatening in the home half of the fourth but were not able to score thanks to an incredible throw from right fielder, Josh Lanum, to home plate to get the runner out. Ninth Inning kept their momentum going scoring another run in the top of the fifth extending their lead to two. Ryan McTighe continued his big day at the plate with a leadoff single and came around to score after an RBI double by Sadir Ryan.

Despite being down 5-3, the Bombers stayed focused and their bats exploded in the bottom of the sixth scoring seven runs. A leadoff walk and back to back singles loaded the bases for Parker Brosius who legged out an infield hit scoring Alex Urius. Ninth Inning was able to get the runner out from second at third on the hit. An intentional walk loaded the bases for Colin

Linder who walked, scored another run. A wild pitch scored Tyler Triche, putting the Bombers ahead 6-5. With the bases loaded, Patrick McCavitt extended their lead to four with a base clearing triple. Patrick McCavitt then scored on a passed ball to make the score 10-5.

Colin Linder, who pitched four innings, shut the door on the Ninth Inning batters in the top half of the seventh, ultimately earning them the championship.

The Georgia Bombers 16U are the 2020 PG 16U Southeast Select Champions.

Brian Garmon II, of the Georgia Bombers, was awarded the tournament MVPitcher this week with six innings pitched, four strikeouts and zero hits.

Cayden Gaskin, of the Ninth Inning Royals, was awarded tournament MVP this week with four singles, one triple, seven runs scored, seven RBIs, two stolen bases and a .333 OBP.

ECB Astros 17U Orange Bring Home Another Championship

MARIETTA, Ga. – The East Cobb Astros 17U Orange squad finished up another tournament Monday afternoon crowned as champions for the 2020 PG 18U Southeast Select Championship. The Astros took on a pesky D-BAT ELITE 2020 team in the championship game and were able to come out with a victory 3-2. This is the Astros first tournament win of the summer, but they will be adding to an already impressive trophy case for the ECB Astros organization.

This week’s event featured 40 teams, but the Astros were the last team standing. In pool play, they went undefeated scoring 18 runs and allowing only three. Only the five pool winners were awarded a seed in the bracket. The Astros were given the two seed and played the Bullpen RedStitch 18U in the semifinal game. They used a three run sixth inning to ultimately advance to the championship with a final score of 5-4. They took advantage of three walks to load the bases and two pass balls to score two of their runs. Carter Wright delivered the knockout blow with an RBI double scoring Caleb Ellard.

The championship game featured starting pitchers, Walker Noland (Astros) and Albert Pallasch (D-BAT), each of whom worked efficiently on the mound and kept the opposing batters guessing.

The first run did not score until the bottom half of the fourth inning with D-BAT scoring two runs. Cory Lee, Gehrig Ebel, and Donavan Frayer all singled en route to their first run. With one out, John-David Fritch hit a ball on the ground enabling Gehrig Ebel to score from third base for their second run. The Astros bats responded in the top of the fifth answering with two runs of their own to tie the game 2-2. They used a single by Bryce Knox and three walks in a row to score their first run. With the bases loaded and no outs, Samuel Smith delivered a timely hit to score Matthew Strand to tie the game, the last time either team scored before going into extra innings.

Relief pitcher for the Astros, Ed Manke, entered in the bottom half of the sixth and shut down the D-bat hitters for three innings as the Astros were able to score a run in the top half of the eighth to ultimately win the game and be crowned champions. Michael Mitchler led off the top half of the eighth with a single and scored thanks to a clutch one out triple off the bat of Justin Bogard.

The ECB Astros 17U Orange are the 2020 PG 18U Southeast Select Champions.

Walker Noland, of the ECB Astros, was awarded the tournament MVPitcher this week with 5.1 innings pitched, 6 strikeouts, 0 earned runs and a 1.31 WHIP.

Cory Lee, of D-BAT ELITE, was awarded the tournament MVP this week with a .667 batting average, 6 hits, 5 runs scored and 6 RBIs.

Perfect Game is currently hosting the 2020 PG Southeast Elite Championship for 14U, 16U, and 18U from July 28- August 1.

Perfect Game Softball Battle for the Belt April 18-19, 2026 Des Moines, Iowa It was a cold and very windy weekend, but the girls still came out and put in their best efforts. If you wanted the place to see some of the state’s top talent, this was the tournament to be at. The 18u division was quite the slugfest! The Ankeny Centennial 18U -Kennedy team took down a tough Iowa Alliance Select-Benge team in the championship. Both teams had double digit homeruns on the weekend. April 21st Perfect Game/Player of the Week:  Tague Davis, IF, Louisville  The Louisville Cardinals (22-18) haven’t been able to get themselves in much of a groove this spring, their longest winning streak is 5-games, and they are (4-6) in their last 10-games.  The issue has not been the offense as the Cardinals are averaging over 8-runs per game and Tague Davis is leading the club in virtually every offensive category.  His calling card is his 70-grade power and that was on display last weekend in their series against Cal.  In the three-game series, Davis went 7 for 12, scoring 4 runs, launching 5 home runs and collected 7 RBIs.  The 6-4/220 lefthanded hitter from West Chester, PA has a pure stroke, is one of the premier power hitters in the nation and has significantly improved his plate discipline from a year ago.  After his big weekend, he is...
