Walter Ford (2023, Hoover, Ala.) got the start night one and although it was brief, it was more than enough to know that there is a number of things to work with in terms of his chances to be one of the top two-way players in the country. Already lauded for the way he swings the bat, Ford jumped on the mound and worked up to 92 mph with hard downhill action out of the hand that would show tough to square against a number of lineups. He did struggle to find the zone in the brief look given the amount of moving parts that struggle to sync up right now, but he was able to show off a brief feel for the hard slider we have seen in the past, a pitch that will be an important piece to any long-term success on the mound.

As he continues to find the barrel with consistency while slowly getting stronger, the overall package and results should improve accordingly.
