As the season gets into full swing, it has been exciting to see the way players and teams have not taken this season for granted and continued to aspire in developing their game.

Justin Fryer (2024, Norristown, Pa.) got the start on the mound for 5 Star NE 14U in their opening game of pool play and fired five shutout innings for his squad in an 8-0 victory. The long, lean lefty pounded the zone effectively with his three-pitch mix, keeping hitters off-balance by sequencing them well to disrupt timing. The operation is rather simple with some deception added by his high hands, higher coiled leg lift and a slight back turn away from the hitter, before working into a higher, more vertical slot. The fastball flashed some natural arm-side run that missed barrels on its own, but the secondary offerings were a real weapon led by his well-replicated changeup that had power fade and depth to its action. Fryer will continue to be someone that we monitor moving forward, as the young left-hander continues to develop more velocity, to go along with his advanced pitchability and secondary offerings.
