West WWBA Scout Notes: Day 1
West WWBA National Championship Day 2
Logan Saloman (2022, Chandler, Ariz.) came out of the 'pen and put on an absolute show. The right-hander showed a three-pitch mix that overwhelmed hitters often. He utilized a simple, repeatable delivery that allows him to pound the zone often. The frame already has strength throughout and there is room to add more. That should help continue to add velocity to a fastball which already sits at an impressive 87-90 mph. Saloman dotted the offering on both sides of the plate on a regular occurrence, allowing him to go to his two plus-grade off-speed offerings. He displayed a deceptive changeup that sat in the low-80s with fading action that barrels could not seem to find. It was extremely tough for hitters to pick up because the arm speed was maintained exceptionally well. He also showed a slider that sat 77-79 mph with short tilt action. The bite on the offering allowed him to generate whiffs with it frequently. The Arizona State commit easily showed why he is regarded as one of the top arms in Arizona.
Demitri Diamant (2022, Las Vegas, Nev.) has a track record of being able to hit for a while now and it is easy to see why. There is a lot to like about the frame. He has obvious strength in the lower half that allows him to fire his hips through his swing. Combined with a simple stroke with minimal movement allows him to barrel balls to all fields. His knack for getting the bat to pitches that are tough to handle was extremely impressive. He has the ability to pull his hands in and get the barrel to inner-half fastballs, as well as spoil tough off-speed pitches low and away. The plus bat-to-ball skills combined with barrel feel equate to an above-average hit tool with some pop. The Georgia Tech commit also showed a solid glove on the dirt with some range in both directions. He will likely always be a bat first player, but there is some value on both sides of the ball.
