Uncommitted Connor Grotyohann (2022, Stockholm, N.J.) came out firing in the morning slot for the NJ Marlins, as the physical right-hander recorded all 12 of his outs via strikeout. Grotyohann ran his fastball into the upper-80s early and often from a high three-quarters arm slot. He incorporates a simple operation with good lower half movements to create tons of leverage and length down the slope. The Stockholm, N.J. native worked all four quadrants with his fastball effectively, expanding up with two strikes and putting away hitters with tons of swings-and-misses. He mixed in a hard 11-5 shaped breaking ball that he was able to land for strikes, while manipulating its shape slightly to generate awkward swings and misses. He allowed just two hits and walked only one hitter during his outing, to go along with the mentioned 12 strikeouts. He should be able to provide an immediate impact to someone’s 2022 recruiting class and would be a welcomed addition, as he possesses a high-octane fastball with good spin traits and above-average breaking ball to pair with it.
