Canes 14u Clutch Flexes Depth at 14u BCS

Photo: Yodelkis Quevedo (Perfect Game)
As a top-10 team in the nation, Canes Florida 14U Clutch may have a target on their back anytime they step on the field. That happens when your team has four top-100 prospects in the 2026 class on the roster, and several more who will be playing Division-I baseball in the future.

But for them, none of that matters right now. It’s just about playing together.

“The kids just have a good bond,” Canes Head Coach Joel Cruz said. “They have fun for sure, they play hard, and that’s pretty much all you could ask from them.”

This enjoyment was shown on full display Saturday in the Canes' 6-0 victory over Jsb Elite 2026.

Elvin Pascual got things started on the mound for the Canes, tossing a 1-2-3 inning before a lightning delay in the top of the second postponed the game for about an hour.

When things got back underway, Nicholas Raber replaced Pascual on the mound and was dialed in, allowing just one hit while striking out two in his two innings of work.

The dominant pitching was a common theme from the Canes all game, with a combined three-hit shutout from Pascual, Raber, Christian Dixon and Michael Hough.

On top of having a great team effort on the mound, none went over the 30-pitch threshold, meaning they will all be eligible to pitch again tomorrow.

After the lightning delay, the Canes offense went to work in the bottom of the second.

A leadoff double from cleanup hitter Marcelo Rodriguez ignited what became a four-run barrage in the second inning. A few batters after his extra-base hit, Rodriguez made his way home courtesy of a wild pitch.

Before he made his way on the mound, Dixon made his presence felt at the plate, striking a two-run double to right field to bring in Carlos Caldera and Hector Javier Alvalle Ortiz to extend the lead to 3-0.

“Man, they came right back just how they started,” Cruz said. “We got one run in that first inning and then we came back and scored four right after that so it was great, they came out to play.”

A two-out RBI single to bring Dixon in from leadoff man Yodelkis Quevedo, the No. 1 third baseman in the 2026 class, extended the lead to 4-0, which was more than enough for the Canes and their 6-0 win.

In total, Canes put together seven hits in their six-run effort, led by Dixon, who was 2-for-2 out of the nine-hole with his three RBI. The balanced showing, both on the mound and at the plate, is a good sign for things to come for the Canes during the duration of the 14u BCS National Championship Qualifier.

Top 100 Collegiate Freshmen

Vincent Cervino
Article Image
As we creep toward opening day here in a month or so, the draft team has put together the Top 100 freshmen on campus this spring.  Three high-end arms lead the way, starting with Jack Bauer. The Mississippi State left-hander reached triple digits as a prep and is sure to make an immediate impact this spring. UCLA right-hander Angel Cervantes was selected in the 2nd round of last year’s draft but held firm on his commitment and should be an impact arm for the Bruins. Following the arms, a collection of bats rounds out the Top 10. There is loads of upside to the group with the potential and they should draw considerable playing time as freshman.  As the list gets deeper, there are plenty of players that should pop up and make significant contributions both this year and years down the line. The class has both depth and talent, making for a very intriguing group of...

“How do you get to success? You have to honor the process that you built to get to that success…The standard is how we operate, train, and get better each day.”” Process-oriented leadership is a popular coaching strategy here in the mid-2020s but no one exemplifies that more than LSU head coach Jay Johnson. He’s won the Tigers two national titles during his time in Baton Rouge and expectations won’t be any lower in 2026 as LSU is the No. 1 team in the country in Perfect Game’s Preseason Top 25.  Johnson is heading into his fifth season at the helm in Baton Rouge and it’s fair to say that he has already experienced enormous success. There have been two national titles in four years (2023, 2025), a Golden Spikes winner (Dylan Crews, 2023), a first overall MLB Draft pick (Paul Skenes, 2023), and five first-round MLB Draft picks during...

At 6-foot-5, 205 pounds, Boesen looks the part of a middle of the order type slugger and he's just that, showing lots of looseness and bat speed in his left-handed stroke and is coming off a Jupiter where he hit .700 (!!) as an underclassman while driving in 10 runs. The bat-to-ball skills are obvious as he simply hit at all the big stops in 2025,...
