14u Coastal Fall WS Scout Notes: Day 1-2

Setting the tone all weekend long at the top of the lineup for the Virginia Blaze 14u was Jairdan Pennix (2027, Troutville, Va.). At 5-foot-8, 150 pounds, the MIF already has the frame and actions of a mature defender and creates bat speed with ease. At the plate, he uses a very upright, slightly open stance with hands at his shoulders and away from his body. A small stride and good backside load allow him to create separation in his swing and this is where he generates his hand speed. Pennix is on his way to being a high-level defender, possesses excellent foot speed and the offensive skill is present. He finished the weekend 7-for-10, having scored 6 runs, collecting a double and two triples, adding in a walk and an RBI. He also showed well on the mound in relief, going 5 1/3 innings, collecting 4 strikeouts and running his fastball up to 74 mph. Interesting follow moving forward.
