17u WS Wrap Up, Champs Crowned

CBA BEARS GO THE DISTANCE TO WIN TITLE

The number two seeded CBA Bears took down TB SoSal 2026 team 9-1 today in the championship game to cap off the 17U World Series (Major). CBA Bears won the game in five innings scoring eight runs within the first three innings with 12 hits compared to TB SoSal’s six resulting, in only one run for them.

Bears pitchers Owen Waytas and Riley Jones were on the mound this game. Waytas worked a bulk of the game, throwing three innings in which he gave up five hits, one run, and struck out a batter. Jones closed it out working the last two innings with one hit and struck out two batters. With such a dominant performance at the plate as a whole, Matt Ness, Zee Gutierrez, Andrew Perez, and Benjamin Keisler were the best hitters to watch in particular.



Ness led the way with a 2-3 game, including a home run, reaching a .429 average within 7 games and Gutierrez went 2-3 with two runs scored and hit .333 within five games. Perez went 2-3 with two runs scored and Keisler also went 2-3 with one run scored. And while he didn’t pitch in the final game, Tyler Onofre won MVPitcher in this event after pitching two games in which he went eight innings of work with five hits, 15 strikeouts, and three walks, wrapping up with a 0.90 ERA. Looking at the CBA Bears season, they’re now 7-0 overall after, winning their only event in 2024 so far.  

TB SOCAL MAKES A STATEMENT IN FINALS

The number seven seeded team TB SoSal made a statement in the championship game of the 17u World Series, defeating the number one seeded Baum Bat NW in blowout fashion 12-1 in the championship game. After scoring four runs in the beginning half of the game, they closed it out with eight runs in the last two innings to total 10 hits. Baum Bat NW wasn't able to score till the sixth inning, only getting one run across on five hits.

Keeping their opponent quiet, Lucas Owens, John Petrie III, and Andre Owens all pitched during this game and were strong when their number was called. Lucas Owens, an Ohio State commit, went the longest throwing three innings and gave up two hits and stuck out four. Petrie, an Oregon State commit, went two innings with two hits, one run, and struck out two. Andre Owens also went two innings and gave up one hit and struck out two.

As for the offense, Izaiah Posada went 1-1, ending the event with a .333 avg. through five games and Hayden Woodson (USC commit) went 1-2 with three runs scored and also had a .333 mark through eight games. Miles Scott, a Cal commit and eventual MVP winner, went 3-4 with one run scored and was pivotal in the team's championship run. Trevor Goldenetz (TCU commit) went 2-2 with one run scored, and Jayson Greer, a San Diego commit, ended 2-4 with an RBI. TB SoCal now has a 8-3-1 overall record after winning their first championship this year.
