WWBA World Championship Preview

WWBA World Championship Info: Event Schedule | Top Ranked Players

After waiting a week due to Hurricane Milton, 72 teams make their way to Jupiter, Florida for the 2024 PG WWBA Championship.

Because of the postponement some things were shifted around from an attendance standpoint - however, with teams from 22 different states (plus Ontario and Puerto Rico) featuring some top prospects - there will be no shortage of shining moments that you won’t want to miss.

The top ranked player heading into Jupiter this year is the No. 3 prospect in the land, outfielder Dean Moss, one of three LSU commits on the Canes National/NY Mets Scout Team roster. A native of Atherton, California, Moss continues to evolve his overall game and the left-handed batter has a .472 batting average on the calendar year with 3 home runs and 21 runners batted in.

That's not all the firepower the Canes are bringing as the No. 1 player in the 2026 class, 16-year-old Grady Emerson from Argyle, Texas will look to continue his streak of big performances with both his left-handed bat and pure skills up the middle. Beau Peterson, a recent Texas commit, joins Emerson as one of the top players in the 2026 class (No. 7 overall) and has all the skill to make a big impact offensively, heading into the event with a .574 batting average, 2 home runs, 21 runners batted in and 10 stolen bases.

The strong trio of Emerson, Peterson and Moss are joined by other notable teammates like Auburn commit and right-handed pitcher Ethin Bingaman, LSU commits Mason Braun and Lawson McLeod, Boston Kellner and Georgia commit Matthew Sharman. This Canes National/NY Mets Scout Team will play their first game against the talented SBA Sticks/White Sox Scout Team at 5:20 p.m. on Marlins 6 at the Roger Dean Complex.

A pair of Vanderbilt commits will lead the way for the USA Prime National/Detroit Tigers Scout Team in shortstop Sean Gamble of Des Moines, Iowa, and outfielder Slater de Brun from Bend, Oregon. Gamble plays both the shortstop and centerfield positions at an elite level and is also a strong, left-handed batter who’s maintained a .344 batting average over 32 at-bats in 2024. A powerful, lefty hitter, de Brun, who is still just 17 years old, has a batting average of .447 in 2024 in 38 at-bats - with 3 home runs and 13 runners batted in. Both were in Phoenix this past August as part of the Perfect Game All-American Classic.

Another recognizable name comes in the form of junior Jacob Lombard, the son of George Lombard and brother of George Jr., who was drafted in the first round in 2023 by the New York Yankees. With his amazing speed, elite defense and explosive power, it’s clear Jacob is following in his family’s footsteps and is currently the No. 2 player in the 2026 class.

The USA Prime National/Detroit Tigers Scout team has their first game on Wednesday at 7:40 p.m. on Marlins 6 at the Roger Dean Complex - also against the SBA Sticks/White Sox Scout Team who will be playing their second game of the evening.

While the WWBA World Championship is often won by a team laden in senior talent, let's take a look at a pair of underclass teams who have the talent and depth to make some noise and surprise down in Jupiter.

The USA Prime Scout Team, which includes talent like No. 3 for the class of 2026, Jorvorskie Lane Jr., No. 5 for the class of 2027, Landon Green, LSU commit Jordin Griffin, Florida commit Keaton Neal, Virginia commit Luke Williams, Virginia Tech commit Alex Hoffman and Samir Mohammed, is simply loaded up with talent.

Jorvorskie Lane Jr. from Fort Worth, Texas has a TON of offensive power - able to crush the ball anywhere and everywhere. His batting average sits at .484, his on-base percentage is at .571 and his slugging percentage is an astounding 1.016. In 28 games and 62 at-bats, he’s racked up 7 home runs, 27 runners batted in and 13 stolen bases. You don’t want to miss Lane’s electricity in this event.

Adding to that electricity is the right-handed pitching phenom Landon Green. Just turning 16, he’s struck out 37 batters in only 13 games while throwing up to 96 mph. With a quiet and calculated temperament, he lets his power on the field speak for itself. Joining Lane Jr. and Green, 16-year-old Jordin Griffin from Lake Charles, Louisiana packs a lot of power and speed - described as “unstoppable” on the bases with a 6.46 60-yard dash this summer. That quickness has manifested itself in 19 stolen bases in this calendar year alongside a .340 batting average and 14 runners batted in.

This talented USA Prime Scout Team will play their first game Thursday at 5:20 p.m. on Marlins 6 at Roger Dean Complex.

One last team to mention - coming from Georgia, East Cobb Astros Underclass has a lot of talent to offer coming into the event - though many of them are in the class of 2027. This includes No. 3-ranked Caden Dawson from Marietta, Georgia. Standing at 6’2, 200 lbs, the 16-year-old is a dominant, left-handed hitter. In this calendar year, he’s been astonishing while getting lots of reps in the batter’s box. In 146 at-bats, Dawson has crushed 7 home runs, batted in 55 runners and has stolen 47 bases. He’s recorded throws up to 92 mph from the outfield, where he shines defensively.

Joining Dawson is the No. 18 overall player for the class of 2027, Bear Calvo from Fullerton, California. The 16-year-old is ranked No. 6 nationally as a shortstop and has the ability to blast the ball to all sides of the field. Dawson has a .378 batting average in the calendar year through 45 at-bats - contributing 20 runners batted in, 3 home runs and 9 stolen bases.

With Dawson and Calvo on the East Cobb Astros Underclass team are No. 48 Hayes Maginnis, right-handed pitcher, No. 61-ranked Matthew Westbrook and No. 74 Aiden Pack. This team is sure to be solid and tough to take down with explosive offense. Their first match will be on Marlins 4 at Roger Dean Complex on Thursday at 3:00 p.m.

While plenty of teams will be loaded on talent, there are more than a couple of players you'll want to lock in on as 16 (!) Perfect Game All-Americans are slated to be in attendance, scattered across several rosters, including Moss, Gamble, de Brun, Bingaman and Braun above. Hard hitting Jaden Fauske (the top ranked uncommitted prospect in Jupiter) will be joined by Anthony Pack Jr., Josh Gibbs, Jayden Stroman, Eric Hines, Mario Magana, Owen Jenkins, Lamar Edwards, Taylor Tracey, Dylan Dubovik and Kelvyn Paulino Jr

MLK East Scout Notes Recap

‘28 OF Jakob Groeschel (OH) continues to impress with the bat on the circuit, picked up 2 2Bs in the first game today. Really athletic, went 4.4 on turn; easy to dream on all the traits. #MLKEast @PG_OhioValley pic.twitter.com/wOIwnGKnkg — Perfect Game Florida (@Florida_PG) January 17, 2026 2028 OF Jakob Groeschel (Springfield, Ohio) broke out at this event last year hitting a casual .909, and although he didn’t turn in quite the same performance, he hit a strong .462 with 4 extra-base hits, 5 walks, 5 bags and only struck out once. He’s a pretty dynamic athlete who can do a lot of things well, but the bat is the calling card as he just lives on the barrel and has no problem handling all kinds of pitching. It’s a simple swing, but he’s got fast hands and he can really impact the ball without being overly physical yet.  2030 RHP Michael Vazquez...

Three hitters and three pitchers that really impressed or improved their stock at the Area Code Select at Dodger Stadium.  Gotta start with James Clark as he stole the show offensively, and right out of the gate, with a pull side home run as just the second hitter of the game.  Added a triple to the pull side again, again on the barrel.  Added a single up the middle.  Really showed exceptional feel for the barrel.  Flew out to center field on two occasions, both barreled up pretty well, with one getting lost in the sun.  I’m old and salty, so didn’t give him the double for the cycle, but he was the most impressive bat (easily) on the day.   One of the other position players that impressed, I’ve been somewhat critical of, have spoken with his travel coach a little bit about him behind the plate, but Vista Murrieta catcher Taytum...

Preseason HS Top 50

Tyler Russo
Article Image
The start of another high school season is right around the corner in a handful of states and with that, as always, comes our Preseason High School Top-50. A whopping twenty states are represented in the initial Top-50, a number that is staggering when you look at the amount of depth some of these rosters have across the nation. Leading the group is St. John Bosco (CA), a team that brought home a CIF Southern D1 title in 2025 and bring back a strong group of seniors to look to repeat. Stoneman Douglas (FL) is a name most people should know by now in the high school ranks and comes in as our preseason #2 team, looking to win their sixth straight state championship in Florida. Orange Lutheran (CA) had a good case for preseason #1 but come it an No. 3, bringing a roster with seven seniors ranked inside the top-200 in the country to the table. Four other Florida schools are represented...
