PG Softball Iowa City Scouting Showcase #1 16U Division

IOWA CITY, IA - 2025 Perfect Game Scouting Showcase Series #1, August 23 - 24, 2025 saw 50 teams, across three divisions compete in a 5 game guarantee, 80 minute time limit round robin format, to kick off the Fall showcase season in Iowa.  Although DI coaches were unable to attend due to current NCAA no contact rules, the young ladies were able to put their talents on display for several JUCO, DII and DIII coaches that were in attendance, as well as our own Perfect Game National Scouting Director, Erica Beach. Following are highlights from some of the top performers in each division.

16U DIVISION

Sullivan Hall (2027 West Liberty, IA) is a quick footed slapper for Southeast Iowa Allstars 16u Gold/Brandenburg. Hall shows good foot work in the box and advanced barrel awareness. She is as equally comfortable working bunts and soft slaps, as she is utilizing power slaps or even just digging in and swinging away.  This versatility puts added pressure on the defense every time she steps into the box. For the weekend, Hall picked up nine hits that included a double and triple and knocked in five, to finish with a .643 batting average.  Showing her speed on the bases, Hall scored seven runs and also stole seven bases, turning her singles almost instantly into doubles with the stolen base. A very good follow for any next level coach looking for a top of the line-up bat.

Laney Welge (2028 Davenport, IA) is another fine hitter for Southeast Iowa Allstars 16u Gold/Brandenburg. Welge, setting up from the right side, stays fairly tall in the box, shifting weight with a lean into the back side, before striding to start her launch phase. Welge utilizes her lower half very well, with a good turn and finishes hitting off a firm front side. With an aggressive swing and attack angle, Welge could develop some quality power numbers, with continued work on her skill set, as she matures and gains strength over the next few years. On the weekend, Welge collected seven hits, with a double and home run, scored six runs and knocked in five. Although aggressive at the plate, she did work pitchers for three walks, did not record a strike-out and finished hitting at a .538 clip.

Jenna Fuller (2028 West Des Moines, IA) is an athletic L/R SS for Iowa Aries 16u CE Fire Black. Fuller stays tall in the box, leaning into the back leg to shift weight and then utilizing a stride to gain timing and momentum. Fuller does a good job of working her hands inside the ball and appears to be at her best when driving the ball opposite field. Fuller picked up six hits, showing  her speed in legging out a double and a pair of triples, scored six runs, knocked in six and swiped two bases finishing with an even .500 batting average. Although I did not see it, I was advised that Fuller will also slap. I would assume that with her speed, swing mechanics and barrel awareness, this could place added pressure on opposing defenses.

Gianna Lipke (2029 Ankeny, IA) is a RHH for Barracuda Aces 16u Olson. Setting up in a parallel stance, sitting slightly into her legs, Lipke utilizes a move I had never seen, in that she initiates a little hop, both feet slightly off the ground, just prior to the pitch being released. This may be done as a timing move, or as a way to get some momentum generated, but for whatever, it works. Lipke collected eight hits with a couple doubles and a triple. She scored five runs, stole two bases, knocked in four and did not record a strike out to finish with a stellar .727 batting average. This young lady works the ball to all fields and does not miss too many barrels while displaying a nice line drive approach, a quality 2029 to keep eyes on.

Colbie Greiner (2027 Washington, IA) is a two way for Southeast Iowa Allstars 16u Gold/Brandenburg, that earned her way onto the hitting and pitching top performers list. At the plate, the RHH Greiner sets up in a parallel stance, with a good workable base. Weight shift occurs with a slight push into the back hip and she utilizes a stride to generate separation and momentum. Greiner attacks the inside part of the ball and showed the ability to drive the ball to all fields with some pop, in picking up six hits, with a double, triple and homerun, while collecting six rbi’s. In the circle, the RHP shows hitters a full mix of pitches with fastball, change-up, rise, drop, curve and screw. Topping out at 58 mph, Greiner relied on location and movement to be successful in striking out ten, while giving up five hits, three base on balls and zero earned runs, in nine innings of work,  to finish with a 0.00 ERA and 0.89 WHIP.

Jordyn Iversen (2029 Independence, IA) is a lanky RHH, standing  6-feet tall,  for Southeast Iowa Allstars 16u Gold. Iverson sets up slightly open, staying tall in the box, utilizing a lean into the back hip for her weight shift. She launches with very little stride and gets the bat to the ball in quick fashion. Although gifted with long levers, Iverson displays a compact swing, working the hands inside the ball, and more often than not the ball finds the barrel for good line drive carry. Iverson shows patience at the plate and hunts her pitch, which correlated to her picking up eight hits, with 4 doubles, knocking in seven, and finishing with an outstanding .800 batting average. This young lady is already showing a high skill level at the plate, but still has time available to mature, gain strength and fine tune her skill set over the next few years.

Ellie Tague (2028 North Liberty, IA) is a RHP for Thunder Softball Club 16u-Tague who is making it a habit of pitching well in our Showcase Series #1, having made the top performers list in the 14u division last year. This year, with a solid motion and delivery that included the use of a leap in the drive phase, Tague showed a little extra velocity topping out at 61 mph. With a five pitch bag of fastball, change-up, rise, drop and drop change, Tague showed good change of speed and the ability to work the rise just over the hands of hitters, resulting in several swing and miss attempts. In her 12 innings of work, Tague struck out 16, gave up two hits, two free passes and zero earned runs, to end the weekend with an impressive 0.00 ERA and 0.33 WHIP. This young lady continues to improve as she moves through age divisions, and there doesn’t appear to be any reason for this to change.

Macyn Bischoff (2028 Bettendorf, IA) is a RHP for Southeast Iowa Allstars16u Gold/Brandenburg, that is lean in stature, and appears taller in the circle than her registered height. Showing hitters a repeatable motion and delivery, with good use of her lower body in the drive phase, and an aggressive arm whip, Bischoff topped out at 59 mph. Working hitters with a mix of fastball, change-up, rise, drop curve, curve and screw, she was in the circle for 11.1 innings and sat down 13 via strikeout.  Bischoff utilized her change-up very effectively as hitters could not identify the pitch out of the hand, and she was able to throw it for strikes.  Bischoff gave up nine hits, two base on balls, and four earned runs to finish with a 2.50 ERA and 0.97 WHIP.

Avery Baker (2028 Indianola, IA) is a LHP for Iowa Aries 16u CE Fire Black. Baker showed hitters a very deliberate motion, with good use of her lower half in the drive phase, but would appear to occasionally change arm speed, causing problems with pitch release. Topping out at 59 mph, Baker worked 10 innings and struck out seven, gave up four hits, and six walks. Showing her ability to stay calm and work out of jams, with the high number of walks, Baker did not allow an earned run.  Working hitters with a simple three pitch bag of fastball, change-up and rise, Baker was able to keep hitters off balance with change of speed and spotting her pitches. Baker also showed the ability to get out of the circle and field her position.

Madelynn Andres (2028 Ankeny, IA), playing for Alliance Select Gold, had a very good showing in the circle. Andres, a RHP, utilizes a smooth repeatable motion and delivery with no real wasted movement. Topping out at 59 mph, she worked hitters with a four pitch mix of fastball, change-up, drop, and drop curve in her six innings of work. Displaying a very deceiving change-up, unidentifiable out of the hand, and a drop and drop curve that rolled off the table just before entering the hitting zone, Andres struck out 10, while walking one, allowing two hits and giving up one earned run, finishing the weekend with a 1.20 ERA and 0.50 WHIP.

Aailiyah Glenn (2028 Urbandale, IA) is a RHP for Barracuda Aces 16u Olson. Glenn does just about everything right, from her solid drive phase to her smooth motion and arm whip. Topping out at 56 mph, Glenn relies on change of speed, location and movement to be successful. Showing hitters a four pitch bag of fastball, change-up, rise and curve, in her 7.1 innings of work, Glenn sat down 11 via strikeout. It appeared that on this day, it was a tight spinning, late moving curve that was doing most of the damage, as she was able to throw it to both sides of the plate. Glenn gave up four hits, one base on balls and one earned run and finished with a 1.00 ERA and 0.68 WHIP for her efforts.

The tournament championship was an exciting matchup where Southeast Iowa Swarm edged a tough Black Dragons squad. 18u Lauren Hagedorn (2026, Adel, IA) of Iowa Nationals and future Iowa State Cyclone earned weekend MVP honors after a strong two-way performance. MLK East Scout Notes Recap

Perfect Game Staff
Article Image
‘28 OF Jakob Groeschel (OH) continues to impress with the bat on the circuit, picked up 2 2Bs in the first game today. Really athletic, went 4.4 on turn; easy to dream on all the traits. #MLKEast @PG_OhioValley pic.twitter.com/wOIwnGKnkg — Perfect Game Florida (@Florida_PG) January 17, 2026 2028 OF Jakob Groeschel (Springfield, Ohio) broke out at this event last year hitting a casual .909, and although he didn’t turn in quite the same performance, he hit a strong .462 with 4 extra-base hits, 5 walks, 5 bags and only struck out once. He’s a pretty dynamic athlete who can do a lot of things well, but the bat is the calling card as he just lives on the barrel and has no problem handling all kinds of pitching. It’s a simple swing, but he’s got fast hands and he can really impact the ball without being overly physical yet.  2030 RHP Michael Vazquez...
