Jupiter Champ Staff Picks

It's that point of the year where Jupiter is upon us and our staff takes their shot at who will win the biggest tournament of the year. Is the winner mentioned below or will it be an "underdog" of sorts who is hoisting the trophy in the stadium come Monday?

Tyler Kotila's Pick: MBA Scout Team - Murphy

MBA Scout Team - Murphy has a good crop of talent, with some really exciting bats headlining the roster. They should be able to make a run this year in Jupiter, powered by the no. 3 player in the class & PG All-American, Brady Harris. Not to mention a couple of LSU commits in Parker Loew and Jordan Martinez, who can both really swing it. Ethan Wheeler has plenty to like on the mound, with a lot of upside there, as does Tyler Ellis. With 7 Top-500 players and 12 commits, there’s plenty to like with this roster. They’ll be a team to watch, especially if those bats catch fire in Jupiter.

Steve Doherty's Pick: Trosky/Milwaukee Brewers Scout Team 2026

Per usual, Trosky/Milwaukee Brewers will arrive in Jupiter with an embarrassment of riches to play with representing 9 states. Projected as the Pool Q Winners; They will rely heavily on their California connection for offensive production. UCLA recruit Jaden Jackson, recent USC commit Gavin Hottle, shockingly uncommitted outfielder Hamilton Friedberg, and USC commit Bryce Morrison will carry the load with a very capable supporting cast of offensive threats. USC Commit Kai’Nalu Van Scoyoc is the Ace of the staff and will be expected to give the Trosky/Brewers length and a couple quality starts over the weekend. The rest of the staff, with the likes of UCSB commit Dean Barkman and Levi Marlow will provide solid depth to the well rounded rotation.

Cam McElwaney's Pick: Canes National / New York Mets Scout Team

Once again, the Canes bring down one of the best rosters you can find in the event and with their history of winning huge events, this choice was easy. Their roster is headlined by three PG All-Americans in Andrew Costello, Blake Bowen, and Dillon Moss and they round it out with another top-25 player in the class in Beau Peterson and #2 player in the 2027 class in Dylan Seward. The offense should put up crazy numbers in Jupiter and their arms are stacked as well. It was the easiest of choices as they’ve won the event four times and have a long history of bringing down some of the most talented rosters in the tournament.

Tyler Henninger's Pick: East Coast Sox 2026 National

The East Coast Sox organization made a deep run last year in Jupiter with a second-place finish. They will look to finish the job this year with another talented roster. Opposing arms to work hard to get through the lineup that is led by All-American Ryan Harwood and consists of LSU commit Koa Romero, Duke commit Gavin Ruvalcaba, and Princeton commit James Clark. The pitching staff will ultimately decide how deep they go and they have the pieces to do so. LSU commit Colton Christman will be the ace leading the charge, while the rest of the staff has the stuff to post quality innings and win ballgames late into bracket play.

Jason Phillip's Pick: East Cobb/ San Diego Padres Scout Team

A perennial contender in any event that they enter, the East Cobb/ SD Padres ST may have a new look this year with some different faces, but the results remain the same. Led by PG All- Americans Martin Shelar (Miss St.) and two-way standouts RJ Cope (Vanderbilt) and Brock Rein (Georgia), East Cobb is primed to make a deep run this year. Pitching and defense wins in Jupiter, and they have added the pitching depth of quality arms that has been lacking the past couple of years to join a loaded roster that features 17 Division 1 commits. Strong up the middle defensively with the likes of Miller Sheets (Baylor), Bubba Coleman (Alabama) and catcher Jack Woda (East Carolina), they can match up with anyone in the tournament on this side of the ball. Keep an eye out for uncommitted outfielder Henkel Acevedo and catcher Vernon Woodard to make an impact as East Cobb is as well-rounded as ever to make a title run.

Blaine Peterson's Pick: South Charlotte Panthers

I've always thought that teams with a core of players that have played together for a long time have the best chance of winning tournaments like Jupiter. I watched the majority of this group win the 16u BCS tournament in summer 2024. I think they have some really talented players, they've won tournaments before and with a couple of additional pieces on the roster they have a chance to win this week.

Geoff Billock's Pick: Stix 2026 Scout

As the Texas guy it only makes sense to pick a Texas team here to come out on top and why not the Stix 2026 Scout. This team is loaded with talent top to bottom on both sides of the ball with proven track records of strong performances. They have the depth both sides of the ball to make it happen. Just a well rounded team that will have a strong lineup with good pitching and should play good defense all around. The lineup is littered with athletes and power threats all around so if they play to their potential, they should make it through pool play no problem.

John McAdam's Pick: Dirtbags National 2026

Coach Andy Partin and The “Dirtbags” make their annual trip to “Jupiter” with a well-stocked squad that has plenty of positional firepower to-go along with tons of depth on the mound that has seemingly played togther for some time. That comes into effect as teams make playoff runs, as the coaching staff will know who to turn to in pressure situations. The North Carolina based squad has made plenty of runs in “Jupiter” throughout its history and this year should be no different.

Anthony Gambardella's Pick: Ghost National 18u

The Jersey-based squad will fly into Jupiter with a gritty lineup and very versatile pitching staff. The speedy shortstop Jason Amalbert will lead the offense, coming off a summer in which he hit .460 with 19 extra-base hits at PG events. A pair of reliable right-handers in Nicholas Riordan and Christopher Marano are likely to get the ball in each of the team’s first two games. With their deep bullpen and fiery offense, Ghost National 18u enters with a real chance of winning it all.

Michael Albee's Pick: Team Elite/Dbacks Scout

This looks like a well rounded group on paper with talent in all of the right spots to help break through the pool and make a run through bracket play. It’s a good core of arms with Jack Ryan, Brennan New and Daniel Kellis coming in as the highest ranked prospects on the staff. They have plenty of offensive upside as well, and you can expect production from 2025 All-American Jaxson Wood with SEC commits like Lee Holt and Max Rogozinski filling out spots on the lineup card. This is a pretty sure-handed group of defenders on the dirt, and if the pitching outside of the main core can step up and deliver, this group can be a contender.

Joey Cohen's Pick: Alpha Prime

This Alpha Prime squad has strong balance throughout the roster, and I think they have several players that will pop up and surprise both our staff and teams as well. They are headlined by PG All-American Isaiah Hearn, but they have a couple of west region personal favorites of mine in Matthew Kelley, Josiah Morris, Ayden Deome and Alika Ahu who are all highly skilled and athletic position players that can really make some noise this week. They also have sneaky depth on the mound with arms like Dustin Dunwoody, Colten Rainer and Brett Slymen that are likely to get early starts in pool play and they can still bring in high level arms later on like Dawysen Anderson, Isaac Copen and Max Schweyen. Also look for some talented 2027s to make an impact on this squad in Mariano Gonzalez, Brody Coxen and Noah Lemau.

Jheremy Brown's Pick: Royals Scout Team 2026

Sure, this group isn't from one of the traditional hot weather states like Texas, Georgia, Florida or California, but that doesn't mean these guys can't play. Loaded with commitments up and down the roster and players ranked all over within the top 500, this Royals Scout Team is going to make a run more than a typical "scout team" where players come from all over for a single tournament. PG All-American Carson May will have plenty of eyes on him throughout the week, both when he's in the box, but also while leading a pitching that that'll be led by hard throwing Arkansas commit Brody Crane, one of six players slated to sign their NLI this November to an SEC school.

Vinnie Cervino's Pick: 5 Star Mafia 18u Black

5 Star has been here before and has won this event before and they bring a very balanced roster to the WWBA World Championship. There’s a good blend of star power along with pitching depth that should allow them a deep run come bracket play.

Troy Sutherland's Pick: Dulin’s Dodgers Prime-Godwin

While Jupiter is generally a battle of pitching depth, I think the blend of polished bats to go along with a couple of frontline arms may be the recipe for Dulin’s to hoist the WWBA World Championship trophy for the first time in the organization’s history. This is a roster I really trust at the top with 3 guys that could cement themselves as early round prospects in next July’s MLB Draft, Oklahoma commitAnthony Del Angel, Tennessee commit Cade Allen, and Arkansas commit Spencer Browning.

Jake Willis's Pick: FTB Phillies 2026

This FTB Phillies lineup is built for a deep run in Jupiter, and the squad is powered by a strong core of 2026 grads with a few standout underclassmen ready to contribute. Florida commit Kinon Bastian (’27) headlines the offense with his combination of power and speed, and his tools have the potential to provide big impact to the game in multiple ways. On the hill, UCF commit and All-American Pablo Figueroa (’26) can impact any game with his low-mid 90s fastball and true 4-pitch mix. This roster is a solid mixture of firepower and balance, and they look ready to perform at a high level in Jupiter.

Craig Cozart’s Pick: Power Baseball

A model of consistency, Power Baseball and Co-Founder Jesse Marlo annually churn out some of the best talent in the country. But what distinguishes them from much of the industry is the cohesiveness in style of play and attention to the fundamentals. This year’s roster is as deep as ever with a blend of ’26 and ’27 grads that should make them a fun group to watch. The underclass arms could be the key with Ryder Simon, Christian Lynch, Noah Adkins and Grady Stevens all primed to help them make a deep run. The offense will be paced by PG All-American Louis Hernandez and his elite tool set at the plate and in the field.

Tyler Russo's Pick: USA Prime National / Detroit Tigers Scout Team

This is a club that's loaded with premier talent in the 2026 class and one that is poised to make a deep run in Jupiter given the depth of their arms and impact pieces on offense, 1 thru 9 in the lineup. In total, Prime has 6 players ranked within the top 100, including 4 who were Perfect Game All-Americans, led by middle infileder Gunner Skelton who is a Vanderbilt commit and will be pivitol to his team's success.

Ryan Miller's Pick: Wow Factor National 18U.

Wow Factor has immense talent on both sides of the ball, starting at shortstop with defensive wizard and Vanderbilt commit Aiden Ruiz. Other components of the offense include SEC recruit infielders Miles Young and Marcus Cantu. On the mound, they have no shortage of options, headlined by Vanderbilt commit David Hinojosa. Other contributors will include Arian Vargas, southpaw Johnny Carver, and Wake Forest recruit Ryan Auten.

Jered Goodwin's Pick: MLB Breakthrough Series 2026

This Breakthrough team is composted of some of the top talent from around the country, spanning across the 2026 and 2027 classes, and will be guided under the tutelage of countless years of MLB experience in the dugout. With 9 current commitments on the team, Breakthrough is heading south with a roster of 24 players, led offensively by the likes of Carter Hadnot, No. 5 player in the ’27 class nationally, LSU commit Dylan Minnatee and third baseman Kaleb Traylor, a future Vanderbilt Commodore while nearly half the roster (10) players rostered are primary arms, meaning they are ready to make a deep run.

Steve Fiorindo's Pick: CBA Marucci

There is a pretty good history of teams repeating as champions down in Jupiter, with three teams achieving that feat looking back at the last ten years, and that is what CBA Marcie will be trying to do this year.  5 Star/Top Tier just repeated in 2022/2023, the Florida Burn did it in 2018/2019, and the Evoshield Canes pulled off the ’three-peat” in 2013, 14, and 15.  CBA Marucci sends a deep squad down to Jupiter,  headlined by a pair of 2025 PG All Americans in outfielder Eric Zdunek and RHP Logan Georges.  Taden Krogsgaard is an interesting two way guy that threw at the All American scrimmage, and looked good in both facets during scout ball, and his stuff on the mound has taken a jump.  He could be that guy that gets more helium in Jupiter and takes it in to the high school season.  I like the depth up the middle, including  Jet Berry and Troy Southisene being two guys that can handle the bat (506 OBP for Berry in 2025, 1124 OPS in ’25 for Southisene).

Marcus Thomas's Pick: CBA Orioles

As we look forward to starting Jupiter on Friday, CBA has all the momentum after a get right weekend locally. Their whole lineup is filled with athletes who can get it done on both sides of the ball and have the ability to change the game with one swing of the bat, led by a pair of Coastal commits, States Farr the switch-hitting shortstop at the top of the lineup, and Wilkins Lurie, an outfielder with good juice and feel to drive in runs in the middle-of-the-order. They also bring with them a stacked pitching rotation of 90+ arms such as Virginia Tech commits , Alex Hoffman and Will Vetter, North Carolina State commit Will Parrish and Duke commit, Carson Moser. With a whole bevy of upper-80 arms that can help close out games from the bullpen. A team that got hot locally with 24 commits on the roster sounds like a team that could put it together and win the whole thing.

13u Tourney All-American Team

What a year it was in 2025 on the national landscape at the 13u level as Perfect Game continues to expand its reach around the country, providing an even bigger schedule of events coast-to-coast which has allowed players all over show out and gain their deserved recognition. Whether in Texas for the Houston 1000 or the 13u WWBA in West Palm Beach, we saw huge, eye opening performances from the players placed below, knowing that we could EASILY build a third team and likely a fourth without much effort.  As we do every year with this exercise, it's worth pointing out the trickiness of this age group and putting the teams together with the 13u group. While the players are all members of the Class of 2030, some are younger for the grade, which allowed them to play at the 12u level where's it's a smaller field, shorter mound distance and different bats, so we'll separate them out and...

2025 Year in Review: College

The LSU Tigers Win It All Again For the second time in the last three years, the LSU Tigers, led by head coach Jay Johnson secured the national title. The national championship was the eight in LUS program history as they swept Coastal Carolina in the MCWS championship series. As a result, Johnson was virtually a unanimous choice for National Coach of the Year on media outlets and is the fastest coach to win multiple CWS championships at a single school. The tournament’s Most Outstanding Player was Tigers’ lefthanded ace and Perfect Game First-Team All-American, Kade Anderson highlighted by his complete-game shutout in Game 1 of the CWS Finals. The roster was a tremendous blend of offensive firepower, frontline pitching and elite defense, leaving opponents with very few avenues to victory. PG Second-Team All-American, Jared Jones was the heart of the lineup with his 20...

IMG Academy Takes Home the National Title Every year IMG Academy comes into the spring with top-to-bottom one of the top rosters in the country and every year have the expectation of winning the national championship. Well in 2025 they did just that after finishing the spring 24-1, winning the High School Showdown, and winning 15 straight games to end their season. Their high end offensive ability was on full display throughout the year and they will once again be one of the most talented teams in the country in ’26 as they look to go back-to-back. Two Top-10 Picks in the MLB Draft Headline National Players of the Year It was another loaded crop that took home the National Players of the Year as both Ethan Holliday, the National Player of the Year, and Seth Hernandez, National Pitcher of the Year, heard their names called within the first-10 picks in the MLB Draft. The college players in the 2028 draft class have yet to step on campus, but they're positioned to make an immediate impact. Several high end talents either turned down significant money last year or honored strong college commitments, resulting in their arrival on campus this fall. The class is currently led by a trio of high-upside arms in Jack Bauer, Angel Cervantes, and Cameron Appenzeller. They are followed by a deep group of bats that rounds out a strong, high end Top-10. Looking Back at the 2025 Top 10  Matt Barr (‘25 Niagara, ‘26 Minnesota Twins) Bursting onto the scene last winter, footage of an indoor bullpen rocketed Barr onto the radar of many. Explosive fastball reaches near triple digits with incredible spin numbers across the secondaries. Huge numbers at Niagara earned him the title of the first Juco player drafted in 2025. JC Vanek (‘25 Chipola, ‘26 Kansas City Royals) Just a professional hitter. Vanek for two years at Chipola was an impossible out. While there are questions if the power will ever reach what it takes to play first base at the big league level, the bat and quality defensive skillset at first base may carry. Donovan Becerra (‘25 New Mexico, ‘26 Texas Tech) One of the more high octane arms anywhere in the country last year. Can reach back for upper 90’s and has shown serious swing and...

2025 Year in Review: Draft We’ve reached the end of the 2025 calendar year, and while we’ve already jumped in on the 2026 cycle with some of the fall events and post-draft content we’ve had here at Perfect Game, there’s still one more piece on the docket, and that’s the 2025 Year-In-Review piece here from the PG Draft staff.  The 2025 MLB Draft took place in July, when many highly talented players heard their names called and continued their journey through the game to the next level. There’s already been some of those names making noise in the minors and guys who are moving up prospect lists and becoming names to know for MLB fans digging deep into the future of their organizations. While we are going to “close the book” on 2025 with this article, these players still have many years ahead of them, and many blank pages to continue...

Lucien Saint Cyr, INF, Class of 2026 Commitment: Bucknell Saint Cyr announced his pledge to Bucknell, giving the Bison an interesting blend of present tools and projection. Saint Cyr stands 6-foot-1 and offers room to fill in his medium frame, profiling in the middle infield defensively. The New York product starts wide at the base in the right-handed box, keeping his hands high behind the ear. He works into a subtle outward step load, firing through a compact barrel that showcases bat speed and gap-to-gap impact. For head coach Scott Heather and Bucknell, they land a high-quality Northeast infielder in the ’26 cycle, adding to a class that takes the quality over quantity approach. MVPitcher: Duncan McLeod The uncommitted junior toed the slab in three of the four games for Team Mick, tossing 3 2/3 innings.  Zero walks, zero hits and 6 punchouts for the lefty who was used both as a starter in the series clinching game 4 and he closed out game 3 on Friday in quick fashion.  McLeod was very efficient as well, needing just 42 pitches over all his outings.  In the game 4 start, over two innings he punched out 3, with one strikeout with all of his offerings.  The mid 80’s fastball regularly played up, set up with efficient use of the secondaries, with the breaking ball 73/74 and fading change-up 72-74.   Owen Bone (2026) at it again... Player of the Year: Asher Williams It was an incredible year for Williams that was rewarded with a trip to the 14U Select Fest, before some more impressive play in the fall. He came to the plate almost 250 times in PG tournaments throughout 2025 and reached base in well over half of them, hitting to a .500 AVG while slugging a 14U circuit best 12 bombs and driving in 113 runs. The numbers on the surface are ridiculous, but when you look at the high-level events he put them up in, it makes it even more impressive. Pitcher of the Year: Tristan Blalock Blalock earns this honor after a dominant 2025 where he struck out 85 batters in just 48.2 innings of work with a minuscule 1.58 ERA. This included several strong performances at many national level tournaments and showcases where he was able to bully some of the best hitters in the country. It’s hard not to fall in love with...
