13u Tourney All-American Team

What a year it was in 2025 on the national landscape at the 13u level as Perfect Game continues to expand its reach around the country, providing an even bigger schedule of events coast-to-coast which has allowed players all over show out and gain their deserved recognition. Whether in Texas for the Houston 1000 or the 13u WWBA in West Palm Beach, we saw huge, eye opening performances from the players placed below, knowing that we could EASILY build a third team and likely a fourth without much effort. 

As we do every year with this exercise, it's worth pointing out the trickiness of this age group and putting the teams together with the 13u group. While the players are all members of the Class of 2030, some are younger for the grade, which allowed them to play at the 12u level where's it's a smaller field, shorter mound distance and different bats, so we'll separate them out and they will be detailed later. There's also the 54/80 option for players and teams to play in, along with Minors and AAA, all things that are looked at when assembling both teams. 



Let's take a quick second, starting with the offense, and appreciate the performances these guys put together while highlighting some of the eye opening numbers across the board. Texas outfielder Jesse Soberal Jr. is no stranger to Perfect Game events and once again put his best foot forth, continuing to swing a hot stick while earning a First Team best 31 All-Tournament Team nods. Of the 24 man roster, 20 of the players hit double digit home runs, but none connected for more moonshots than Florida's own Mark Thompson who belted 28 home runs, a truly other worldly number. There's no lacking in the speed department thanks to Louisiana's Derrick Carley Jr and his 74 bags and nobody was able to match the bat-to-ball skills of Quintin Blackwell out of California as he hit a robust .567 on the circuit. 

For as good as the bats were, there were still plenty of arms who impressed on the brightest of stages, earning their spots on both the first and second team, respectively. Amongst the sea of impressive resumes of work, you have numbers like 120 (Jack Drake's strikeout numbers), 0.908 (Luke Rohlfs' WHIP) or even 90 mph, the best heater we saw from this group last year, courtesy of Amani Tuiasosopo (though that comes with a caveat of sorts as he popped the 90 this past fall, after the calendar switched to 14u, but that's okay.) 

Of all the elite performers, it wasn't the easiest to narrow it down to a single player for the Player, Pitcher and Two-Way Player of the Year, but through some deliberation, and truly letting the numbers speak for themselves, below are the winners of each award.

Player of the Year: Mark Thompson (FL)

28 home runs. That's it. That's all that needs to be said. But, Mark Thompson is more than just home runs and his overall stat line this summer was simply otherworldly. In any other year there'd be a handful of players vying for this spot, but Thompson's performance was simply too loud to be overtaken. Over the course of 258 plate appearances, the Floridian racked up 111 hits, good for a .558 batting average, but his 1.817 OPS is even more impressive as he gathered 23 doubles, 12 triples and those 28 round trippers. There's obviously intent to do damage every time he steps into the box, but he's not going to sell out, showing a disciplined approach, not afraid to draw his walks to simply take what the pitcher gives him. He's an all fields hitter with a very real feel for the barrel and it's the type of swing that'll continue to excel as he climbs the ranks and into the wooden bat phase of the 14u circuit. 

Pitcher of the Year: Noah Osterman (GA)

Not only does Osterman have arguably the best line across the board on the first team from this past summer, but he did it against some of the best teams in the country and we all know pitching at the 13u level isn't the easiest given what you're going up against. A low-80s lefty from southern Georgia, Osterman exemplifies what it means to be a "pitcher" in that he throws three pitches, in any count, with real feel to move it throughout the four quadrants and to either side of the plate. That's not to say low-80s at the 13u level isn't impressive, it truly is, but more that he doesn't just rely on challenging hitters on the strength of a heater. Over the course of his 65.1 innings he punched out 99 and more impressively walked just 32, limiting the big hit while finishing the year with a 1.270 WHIP, a very good mark at the 13u level. Osterman might be the 13u Pitcher of the Year but he also found a spot on the second team for his hitting as he's an all-around quality athlete, showing an innate feel for hitting as evidenced by his nearly .500 average and 1.463 OPS, showing there's some hidden juice at the plate as well. 

Two-Way Player of the Year: Jhunior Jose Cordero (FL)

I'll challenge you to go find something on the baseball field that Cordero can't do. It might take you a little bit. So let's dive into what he CAN do and know it's a little bit of everything at the highest of levels. A first teamer for both pitching and hitting, it's fitting that the young Floridian takes home the Two-Way Player of the Year honors and rightfully so given what he did. Possessing one of the better fastball in the class as he'll park it in the mid- to upper-80s, Cordero can absolutely spin the baseball which led him to punching out 93 in just 65 innings to just 36 walks and proved to be nearly unhittable as suggested by his minute and first team best 0.826 WHIP. How about with the bat though? Well, he hit almost .500 on the year (.497) and had as many doubles as he did home runs with 11 in both columns, proving to consistently find the power stroke. There's a combination of bat speed and strength that you don't often find at the 13u level and he's proven time and time again that he's just not full of tools, but that they play at the highest of levels as well.

The 2026 MLB Draft class is shaping up to be one of the better in recent memory and, potentially, the best class in the last decade. It’s led by UCLA superstar shortstop Roch Cholowsky, a true five-tool prospect who’s the early favorite for 1:1. In every major sport, the championship is decided in the postseason. You can lose games all year, get hot at the right time, and walk away with the hardware. The regular season is a rehearsal. The playoffs are the show.  The championship belt changes that. Borrowed from professional wrestling, boxing and ultimate fighting, the belt travels the moment the holder loses — no brackets, no seeding, no second chances. A random Tuesday non-conference game in Milledgeville, Georgia  becomes a title fight. A spring trip to Florida becomes a gauntlet. We have another update to the National Top-50 after two weeks of even more games being played in the southern states along with seasons just starting to kick off across the country. We’re quickly approaching another stellar high school event, the NHSI in Cary, and with that will come even more movement in these rankings. St. John Bosco (CA) continues to hold firm at the No. 1 position after a 4-0 start to their season. Venice (FL) has been rolling throughout the early portion of the year and jumps up to No. 2 in the country. One of the biggest movers in this update is The Bennett School (TX) jumping from unranked to No. 8 in the country after beating a handful of top ranked programs to start the year. March 17th Perfect Game/Player of the Week: Vahn Lackey, C, Georgia Tech The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (17-3) came into the season with the highest external expectations in decades based on the anticipation of their offensive potential. To this point they have not only met those lofty expectations, but twenty games in they may have exceeded them. While there are plenty of high-level prospects up and down the lineup, with all that star power Vahn Lackey has stood out.
