PG Draft Top 400: Biggest Risers

The draft cycle is officially in full swing. With the college season nearing postseason play and high school baseball underway across the country, the board is beginning to shift in a major way. Over the past month, a number of players have significantly altered their stock, whether by continuing dominant spring performances or showing improved tools that warrant a jump. That movement was evident throughout our latest Top-400 update, which featured several notable jumps across the board. Here’s a look at the biggest risers from the newest rankings update.

Biggest Risers Overall 




There were 106 players from our previous Top-300 who moved up at least one spot in the latest Top-400 update, but no player made a bigger leap than California prep shortstop James Tronstein. The Vanderbilt commit rose 131 spots to No. 103 overall after putting together an impressive spring on the West Coast. Tronstein has continued to show athleticism, a polished feel to hit, and increased power production at the plate.

The second-largest rise belonged to another California prep player in right-hander Dustin Dunwoody, who climbed 129 spots to No. 166 overall. Dunwoody has been dominant this spring, recording 106 strikeouts against just 17 walks while continuing to show improved stuff and command.

Three additional players jumped more than 100 spots in the update: Florida State outfielder Brayden Dowd (No. 287 to No. 164), Florida State right-hander Cole Stokes (No. 282 to No. 174), and Florida prep right-hander Wilson Anderson (No. 207 to No. 102). All three have put together strong spring campaigns that forced a rise on the board. 

Top-100 Risers

Even this late in the cycle, the top of the board continues to evolve. Ten players who previously sat outside the Top-100 vaulted their way into that range in the latest update, led by prep right-handers Chase Kiker and Landon Brown. Both arms climbed more than 80 spots after showing improved stuff this spring while continuing to perform in front of decision-makers.

Kentucky prep right-hander Grayson Willoughby also made a significant jump, climbing 52 spots to No. 89 overall. His combination of present stuff and continued development has garnered significant attention this spring.

Several college players also made strong pushes into the Top-100 after pairing production with noticeable adjustments. North Carolina shortstop Jake Schaffner led the way among college risers, jumping 69 spots, while Florida outfielder Kyle Jones rose 33 spots and Cincinnati catcher Jack Natili climbed 31 spots. Each has continued to build momentum with strong spring performances.


One of the more notable movers in the entire class, however, is Massachusetts prep left-hander Brody Bumila. Loud offseason bullpens already earned Bumila some buzz entering the spring, ranking No. 88 in the previous update, but his stock has exploded since the season began. The 6-foot-9 lefty jumped 58 spots to No. 31 overall after showing the ability to consistently reach triple digits while missing bats at a high rate. Given the trajectory of his spring, it would not be surprising to see him continue climbing in future updates.

1st Rd. Risers


Few players have improved their draft value more this spring than UCLA right-hander Logan Reddemann. The Bruins ace has put together a dominant season, showing improved stuff, consistent command, and loud results throughout the spring. Reddemann climbed 53 spots to No. 25 overall in the latest update and continues to position himself as one of the top college arms in the class heading into July.

Fellow college right-hander Cade Townsend also looks like his first-round pick. The sophomore-eligible arm has continued to show a strong blend of pitchability and stuff, solidifying himself as a player teams could target early. He jumped 19 spots to No. 27 overall.  

Out west, prep two-way player Jared Grindlinger made one of the more significant jumps near the top of the board, rising from No. 48 to No. 16 overall. After reclassifying late in the process, many evaluators initially viewed him primarily as a pitcher, but reports this spring indicate plenty of teams now prefer the bat. With the way his stock has trended, there is a real chance he does not make it out of the teens in July.

A trio of college standouts in catcher Ryder Helfrick and left-handers Cole Carlon and Mason Edwards also made major jumps within the first-round range. All three were ranked near the back of the first round in the previous update before climbing into the early teens this time around. Their continued production and consistency throughout the spring have made them difficult to ignore.

Biggest Non-Ranked to Ranked Risers


While most of the movement came from players already established on the board, a handful of prospects forced their way into the rankings entirely. Georgia Tech shortstop Carson Kerce headlined that group, debuting at No. 94 overall after an outstanding spring at the plate paired with strong defensive play at shortstop.

Florida prep right-hander Brady Snow entered the rankings at No. 122 overall after missing time earlier in the year. Since returning, Snow has shown improved stuff and continued to perform against quality competition.

Colorado prep right-hander Ethan Wachsmann also made a major debut on the board, landing at No. 125 overall. Once the Colorado high school season began, Wachsmann quickly turned heads with big-time velocity and electric stuff.

UCLA right-hander Cal Randall became the fourth previously unranked player to jump into the Top-150, debuting at No. 138 overall. Randall has arguably shown the best fastball in the class this spring, pairing big velocity with a low release height that has made the pitch especially difficult for hitters.

With just over two months remaining until draft day, there is still plenty of time for the board to continue shifting. Players across the country still have opportunities to strengthen their cases throughout the remainder of the spring.
