CEDAR
RAPIDS, Iowa – Just less than one year ago, 250 of the most
talented players eligible for the 2012 draft from across the nation
assembled in Fort Myers, Fla. to participate in the 2011 National
Showcase. The top prospects from that event were chosen to attend
the 2011 Perfect Game All-American Classic presented by Rawlings,
which included the Houston Astros No. 1 overall pick, Carlos Correa.
Correa
was the sixth PG All-American to claim that honor, following in the
footsteps of notable young stars such as Justin Upton, Bryce Harper
and Gerrit Cole. 18 other former PG All-Americans were also drafted
in the first and supplemental first rounds, and that full list can be
viewed in this story.
There
were 22 players selected in that same range that attended last year's
National Showcase, and 31 total National alumni.
10
of the first 13 overall selections had previously attended the
National Showcase, eight of which did so in 2011.
Through the first three rounds, an astounding 70 of the 128 players taken were National Showcase alumni, while 87 of the top 188 players (top five rounds) also attended the event.
All
34 of the high school players that were drafted in the first and
supplemental first-rounds have previously attended a Perfect Game
event. 55 of the 60 players (92-percent) taken overall in that range
are also PG alumni.
The
National Showcase has long kicked off the draft season for the
following year. This year's event will be held June 14-18 in
Minneapolis, Minnesota at the Metrodome, former home of the Minnesota
Twins. Similar to past years, the top 2013 prospects from the 2013
graduating class will be in attendance, and many of those players
will be represented on this year's Perfect Game All-American Classic
rosters.

The 2012 Jr. National Showcase, which consists of the top prospects from the 2014 class, will be conducted at the Metrodome the two days prior to the National, June 12-13.
