FORT MYERS, Fla. – 5 Star National 13u Black shutout Team Elite 13u Premier to claim 13u title on a blazing Fourth of July morning, 4-0. The talented group out of Warner Robins, Georgia, held only two losses in this week-long BCS National Championship, that consisted of nine games.

Likewise, this could’ve been either team's game as the two teams appeared to be evenly matched on paper. Falling with a tie for third place was the 5 Star's 13u Gold team, who lost to the eventual champion Black team on Wednesday in the semifinals.

“It was awesome to bring the win back to the 5 Star organization,” said head coach Corey Kessler. “This team battled and played their tail off all week. Going into the championship game kind of low of pitching, we had Jake step up and he did an awesome job.”

MV-Pitcher was earned by 5 Star’s Jake Smith (2024, Winston-Salem, N.C.). The Righthander, who performed outstanding overall, earned the championship win allowing just three walks and three hits, and striking out eight batters in his 6 2/3 innings. Smith worked consistently in the 71-75 mph range.

“It means a lot for me and my team,” said Smith. “To just go out there and work so hard to get the win is everything to us. Coming here was exciting and this place was full of competition. My coaches and teammates have really helped me throughout the way, and I wouldn’t be here without them.”

“Jake, if you ask him to do something he competes at a high level," added Kessler. "He never backs down from the competition.”

Speaking of competition, Coach Kessler reflected on the talent and competition coming into the tournament and says it's a “battle.” Suitably, one they fought to earn.

“It’s a battle,” said Kessler. “It’s tough and you want to play your best in a tournament that offers the best of the best.”

5 Star’s Cameron Warren led the way offensively going 1-for-3 with a triple, a scored run, and an RBI. Teammates Austin Purdie and Aidan Lynch each went 2-for-3 in the game while Purdie scored and drove in a run. In addition, Kolt Myers drove in half the team's runs with a pair of RBIs.

The MVP for the tournament was earned by Team Elite Premier’s Will Goff (2024, Athens, Ga.). The primary shortstop and second baseman had an excellent performance this week tallying 14 hits, nine runs, 10 RBIs, a triple and a pair of doubles.

“I’m just proud of how we got here, fighting to get here and we played a good game,” concluded Goff. “It’s a lot of fun and a lot hotter here. The coaching staff is great, and I want to thank them for letting my play in this tournament. They’ve really helped me improve throughout the year.”
