"It is really hard to pick a favorite moment. I have loved every team, and all the championships have a unique place in my memory bank. The toughest team I ever coached was the group in 2014 with Logan (LT) "Anthony" Tolbert, and Logan Allen. They were a bunch of mean dudes. Not the most talented we ever had not even close. They just were not going to lose. The 2015 championship in Jupiter with Seth Beer’s group we scored 71 runs in Jupiter and allowed 1 run the whole tournament! That was really fun to watch from my seat. Those kids dominated the hardest event in Amateur baseball for 5 days! The group in 2017 that won The WWBA with Xavier Edwards, Nicholas Northcut, & Joe Gray Jr that was the most fun I ever had coaching. Those kids kept it loose, and we had a lot of fun. This past year's group with Caden Grice, Colby Halter, and Maxwell Carlson’s group-we won 41 games in the summer and lost 2. We won WWBA, and the World Series. We were down I bet in 15 of those games and came from behind to win. Walked off in dramatic fashion 5 times. I will never forget that. Walk offs in playoff atmospheres! Nothing like it!" -Jeff Petty

Program History
2005 was the first Canes team ever assembled. We wore Green & Orange like the Miami Hurricanes until 2012 when we struck a deal with Evoshield, and at that time we changed our colors to Black & Yellow. It has been a rich program history of having national success at PG events. After finally winning the Underclass in Ft Myers this past fall, we have successfully won every major PG event there is; Jupiter, Ft Myers, Atlanta, World Series, and MLB Ways to Play. Dan Gitzen has done such a good job with the lower levels of our youth program, 14U, 15U & 16U. The 17U levels benefits from his work tremendously.

2019 Scouting Highlight
“What a Fourth of July it was for the Canes!  Playing “America’s Pastime” while celebrating our countries independence cannot set a better stage for what the Canes accomplished that day. No, it wasn’t the Final Four nor was it a championship game, though the day paved the way as the Canes went on to win their third WWBA National Championship the next day. On July 4th the Canes were tasked with beating three teams ranked in the top-50 to even get a chance to compete in the semifinals, and the Canes did it in dramatic fashion. The first two games were either tied or saw the Canes losing heading into the bottom of the 5th inning. In true Canes fashion, as they always preach team goals over individual goals, I am going to keep prospect names out of this. These games were intense, high energy, and selfless. The Canes played 21 innings during the incredibly hot and grinding weather.  Remarkably, they did not record an error, they grinded out at-bats, and you could see the trust each player and coach had for the guy next to them. They had to take down a top-50 overall prospect in the Round of 32 and they did. They had to take down one of the most storied organizations over the last ten years in the round of 16 and they did it in walk-off fashion. They had to take down a top 10 nationally ranked team in the Elite Eight and they did. It was a day where the culture that is set was at the forefront. This culture is based on chemistry, trust, and toughness all of which shined as bright as the Fourth of July fireworks.” -Jered Goodwin
 
What are we looking forward to scouting during the summer of 2020?
“The 17U team is once again loaded! One of the staples of most winning programs, and certainly the Canes historically, is strength up the middle. The middle infield consists of a pair of top-50 overall prospects in Alex Mooney and Cody Schrier, a duo as sure handed and dynamic as any middle in the country. An outfield that runs out Malakhi Knight, Reece Holbrook, and Daylen Lile should take away hits all summer and any of these prospects could be the headliner for many lineups. Let’s not forget Rene Lastres and Cole Messina behind the plate; Lastres has a hand cannon and Messina is battle tested. On the mound, righthander Chase Burns will garner as much attention as anyone in the country when he toes the mound while Karl Hartman and Philip Abner (Abner can also swing the stick) provide the Canes with three potential No. 1 type arms. The Canes 16U and 15U groups have reloaded too. The top of the Canes 16U order that consists of Cole Young, Xavier Isaac, Adam (AJ) Shepard, and two-way James Triantos could compete at the 17U level this summer. The pitching staff is deep and loaded with power arms up and down the stable. The 15U group looks insanely polished and they already have a ton of highly intense innings under their belt. Last summer the Canes sent a team from all three levels to the finals of the WWBA (17U and 15U-both won championships), and on paper, they could make that type of splash again.”
 
Historical Scouting Notes
“The Canes own a number of National Championships, so picking one historical moment isn’t an easy task. The game that still sticks out to me however was not a championship. It was the quarterfinal game of the WWBA National Championship. Playing an opponent with an equal roster, as far as prospect status would be concerned, the Canes prevailed in a 1-0 win, which was of course, scored in the final frame. It was yet another tough and gritty win that propelled the Canes to an eventual championship. The Canes top four hitters in the lineup, Xavier Edwards, Anthony Seigler, Nicholas Northcut, and Joe Gray Jr, would all go on to sign professional contracts the next summer with Edwards, Seigler, and Gray going on the first day of the draft. The story of the day though, as it always seems to be, was the attention to detail. Righthander Landon Marceaux started the game for the Canes and he may have been the best pitcher on the circuit that summer from a win-right now standpoint. He was an artist as his fastball painted the black all night during his five inning, eleven strikeout performance. The defense was stellar, as usual, and the deciding run was scored on a heads-up base running play at the most intense moment. It was a signature win with the style of play that the Canes seem to relish and it’s just another example of owning a persona of doing things the Canes way.”
