2003 Spring Showcase
Clippard, from warm weather Florida, attended the Midwest Showcase and appeared to be in mid-season form. He is a 6 foot 4, 175 pound Right-hander with a beautiful arm action and low effort delivery. He consistently threw 89 mph and and topped out with several 90 mph fastballs showing good life. The ball was so easy out of his hand that it crept up on batters deceptively fast getting by many bats. His curveball was improved from the last time we saw him between 75-76 mph and his change-up is a plus pitch at 80-81 mph consistently. The arm action on his change-up is identical to his fastball and at the next level we think he will thrive on that pitch. Clippard should be a good draft pick and we think he has a bright future ahead of him. He has committed to South Florida.
