Cooper Hires is a 2027 SS/RHP with a 5-11 165 lb. frame from Olney, IL, who attends Richland County. A medium frame and build. Ran a 7.36 60-yard dash. Primary shortstop who worked out at the position with patient actions and feel for the glovework. He picks it cleanly with good arm speed and some strength across. He had some speed through release as he worked into the arm action. His feet move alright, and he moves well up the middle with some accuracy across. Hires threw 81 mph across the diamond. He moved well in-game, making a really nice diving layout play working up the middle. A right-handed hitter who starts with an open and upright stance with higher hands and a high back elbow. He has a big leg lift trigger and a slightly inward move. He had some whip to the barrel and was able to get the barrel to it out in front. He used the whole field during his round of BP swings. He showed some strength off it and had some extension to the swing. He had a good feel for the operation overall, with even hands and a good line-drive stroke. He added some hits in-game, working the whole field. Hires also took the mound as a right-handed pitcher who worked from the wind-up. He has a sidestep into his leg lift up at the belt. He has a full-arm action working through release, and the ball comes out clean. He threw from a three-quarters arm action. The fastball worked up to 80 mph and spun above 2,000 RPMs, with some late life to it. He also flipped a curveball up to 68 mph with a good 11-5 shape and depth to it. It spins above 2,200 RPMs and he mixed it well enough to find success in his outing. He also flipped in a changeup as well to round out the mix. Excellent student.
