2006 National Showcase
Garrett Nash is a 2007 switch-hitting middle infielder/centerfielder from Jordan HS, residing in Draper, UT. Nash is an exceptional athlete, with a compact and athletic build on his 6'0" 180 lb. frame. He had one of his best ever big event performances at PG National and ranked #19 among all PG National Top 100 position players. Nash has been pegged as a centerfield for some time now because he can flat out scoot, and some scouts have been skeptical of him as a defensive middle infielder. In this event and at others this summer he started to make believers of his ability to play in the middle of the diamond. At the plate he is a quality hitter from both sides, with developing power from both sides, particularly from the left side. On the right side he has a quiet approach with quiet hands. He is a line drive, gap type hitter with plus bat speed and some rhythm in his approach. From the left side he a more power conscience approach, going to the pull side a lot and showing a little lift in his swing. His hands are good and from the left side he showed a bit more raw bat speed, which probably is because he is more aggressive from that side. Nash has shown the ability to spray the ball from the left side too, particularly in BP sessions. Once on the bases he is excitement waiting to happen, either via the stolen base, or taking a hard turn and forcing a throw or flying around the bags on a double or triple or going from first to third. He makes pitchers and catcher nervous with his playable speed. On defense he has plus range at SS/2B or in centerfield and has shown good hands and an arm that can stay on the left side. Nash is not only pure speed, but he has good footwork, making him that much better. He runs 4.00 home/1st (LH), and has shown laser timed 60s below 6.3, running a 6.43 60 at PG National. He is clearly one of top pure athletes in the '07 class and has tools that play in the game. Look for him to get a whole lot of interest for the draft, he just does things that other players cannot and that makes him a premium prospect.
