2007 West Coast Top Prospect Showcase
Harmen Sidhu is a 2008 RHP/OF with a 6'0'', 165 lb. frame from Martinez, CA who attends College Park HS. He was selected as a Top Prospect and was one of the more pleasant surprises at the event. Sidhu has an average frame and a slender build that is naturally going to get stronger. He is a good combination of crafty and talented. Sidhu has a long arm action that works from a high 3/4 slot. There is some deception as he gets to release point because his elbow stays below his shoulder level, leaving the ball out of the normal window a hitter would look from from his arm action. The result is that he sort of hides the ball from the hitter. Sidhu's fastball went up to 88 mph and it was easy too. He sat 84-87 mph and has plus sink on the heater. It really was surprising to see how easily the ball came out of his hand and with that type of movement. His breaking ball (71 mph) is also a quality pitch, with big frisbee action that elicited many swings and misses. Sidhu can change the shape and size of the break on that pitch, sometimes starting it on the plate and breaking it just off and other times starting it on the outer edge and sweeping it well off the plate. Bad hitters have no chance against his curveball. He is a crafty right-hander with good stuff and he can win in college.
