2004 World Showcase
Haynes was one of the stars of the Showcase, a 5-tool outfielder who we hadn’t seen play a whole lot before. Haynes has signed to attend Florida State and he should be an impact player there.. If he plays like he did in Fort Myers, the pro scouts may have something to say about those plans. Haynes has a prototype professional body at 6-2, 185 lbs and is very projectable. He’s a 6.8 runner, solid average on the big league scale and threw 90 mph both from the outfield and off the mound. But what really opened our eyes about Haynes was his hitting ability. Haynes is short and quick to the ball and generates very good hand speed to contact. The ball jumps on contact and one of our scouts described Haynes approach as "attacking and punishing". Haynes took his impressive batting practice into game situations and had 4 solid hits against live pitching. This is a young man that every team is going to have to see play this spring. His athletic body and tools stick out like a sore thumb. Potential very good draft pick.
