2003 Sunshine West Showcase
Spraker is a very smooth infielder that showed as one of the best Division 1 prospects as a Shortstop in the Sunshine West showcase. He has a good build without the 6 foot plus height and his body works like an athletes. He demonstrated good hands, quick feet and his 84 mph throw from the hole at shortstop carried better than any players in the event. In fact, we had to compare our 2 Stalkers on each throw to make sure it was not a mistake. It carried that well. Spraker had our attention. In BP he showed a quick bat with line drive ability but collapsed his back side a little which may or may not be a problem with live pitching down the road. Either way, his ball carried deep into the gap and it worked for him in BP. In the games he continued to show good hands, made some real sharp plays and batteld at the plate. He showed a quiet hitting approach, got some hard hits, showed off that arm a few times and even showed some ability at the catcher position. The only problem with catching, a 6.87 shortstop with silky smooth actions and plus carry on his throw, is that you can't take him out of your infield. We want to see more of Spraker, he is a gamer ! Good student.
