2004 World Showcase
Alfonso has pitched as a starter/reliever/closer at PG/WWBA events all summer and fall and this was a nice opportunity to get to see him throw a couple of innings and stretch it out a bit. Alfonso’s velocity wasn’t the 92+ mph that it sometimes is (more 89-91 mph in Fort Myers) but what we did get to see was an outstanding 77-80 mph slider that was a plus big league pitch at times. If Alfonso can double up on his normal plus velocity fastball and that slider at the same time, he’s going to be next to impossible to hit if the ball is down in the zone. He does tend to overthrow some at times and get the ball up but that should be smoothed out with more innings. Alfonso is an excellent student who has signed to attend Miami. Raudel has an exceptional arm and should create some very serious early draft interest..
