Joseph Baran is a 2015 OF/LHP with a 6-0 160 lb. frame from West Hazleton, PA who attends Hazleton Area HS. Slender young athletic build, lots of room to get stronger. Two-way prospect, graded out higher as a pitcher at this event. Works from the stretch, short quick compact arm action, 3/4's arm slot, some effort on release. Mid to upper 80's fastball, topped out at 90 mph early, got good cutting action at times. Showed big depth at times on his breaking ball, shape varied from deeper 1/7 curveball to more a sweeping slider. 7.06 runner, long loose arm in the outfield, tends to throw uphill with arch but shows good raw arm strength and carry, can improve with better footwork and angle. Left handed hitter, short rotational swing, back side hitter, slashing line drive swing, contact to all fields, projects to keep improving with more upper body strength. Very good student, verbal commitment to Stony Brook.
