Matt Leeds is a 6'1" 170 pound 2007 middle infielder from American Heritage High School in Boca Raton, Florida who was named to the Top Prospect Team. He is tall with a lean slender build. Matt is a switch hitter who starts with a wide stance and is a good young hitter. He has a little more leverage from the left side but has good tools from both sides. He has a good load and really attacks the ball. He has quick hands and generates good bat speed which allows him to drive the ball to both gaps. He keeps his hands inside the ball very well and uses the entire field by hitting the pitch where it is thrown. He didn’t have any problem at all hitting any off speed pitches but he really goes after the fastball. He is also a smart baserunner. He took an extra base on a bad throw coming in from the outfield that missed the cut off man. Leeds has solid actions in the field. He has nice footwork and gets in good position to get the good hop on a ground ball. He has soft smooth hands and makes it look very easy fielding the ball. He showed decent arm strength by throwing 75 mph across the infield. He also showed good speed by running a 7.00 60 during the workout. Matt is an excellent student as well with a 4.0 gpa.
