Cal Coughlin is a 2016 3B/RHP with a 6-1 205 lb. frame from Lake Forest, IL who attends Lake Forest HS. Large frame with strong, sturdy, well-proportioned build. Primary third baseman but really stood out on the mound this event, top level two-way prospect. Hip turn delivery with coil at top of leg lift, maintains solid line to plate, some deception with high frontside and lead arm. Loose arm stroke, slight wrap backside, gets through quickly. Fastball up to 92 mph, shows some armside run. Hard cutter/slider hybrid in mid-80s with short tilt, late sharp slice. Also flashed curveball with 11/5 shape and a firm change with some late dive. Ran a 7.18 60-yard dash. Moves well to ball, light on feet with solid lateral quickness, agility. Strong, accurate arm, up to 89 mph in defensive workouts, solid third base profile. Switch hitter, shows bat speed and pull-oriented approach from both sides, strength plays from either side of the plate. Timing with lower half more consistent from left side, flashes carry and developing power potential. Verbal commitment to Texas Christian University. Named to National Showcase Top Prospect Team.
