Ben Carhart is a 2008 RHP/3B with a 5'9'', 185 lb. frame from Royal Palm Beach FL, who attends Palm Beach Gardens HS. He has a stock, strong build but will have to work to stay in good condition. Carhart is a primary third baseman but we like him just as much, if not better as a pitcher. Carhart is a 7.78 runner who threw 76 mph during drills, which wasn't his true arm strength. He's an agile defender for his build and has nice soft hands and quick transfers. With the bat, Carhart hits from a slightly open stance with a line drive swing and some bat speed. He's a pull hitter who's going to hit some doubles. On the mound, Carhart has a quick, loose arm and very good feel for pitching. He pitched in the 82-85 mph range, with good downhill angle on his pitches. Carhart's curveball was sharp with very good depth at times. He had very good command of both pitches and knew what he was doing. His ability to come in and throw strikes with two solid pitches, along with his physical profile, could make him a very effective reliever at the next level. Carhart is also a good student.
