2017 Pitcher/Catcher Showcase
Seth Hojnacki is a 2017 C/RHP, 1B, 3B with a 6-0 170 lb. frame from Nicholasville, KY who attends Sayre. Medium frame with a lean, athletic build. Projects for additional size with strength. Primary catcher with a low, athletic stance with good hip flexion while setting up to receive. Gains ground to the bag with quick footwork and works through transition with clean, smooth exchanges. Baseball comes out from a compact arm action that generated softer carry to the bag with accuracy topping at 73 miles per hour, best workout pop time of 2.03. Right handed hitter with a slightly crouched, even stance and simple leg lift trigger. Hands load to a deep position prior to launch on a level, line drive path to contact. Created some leverage when working to contact out front. Primarily utilized a mid-field approach and flashed good bat speed and strength through the zone. When on time and balanced, showed the hand and barrel skills to work the baseball to all fields as well. Also pitched showing a simple side step to leg lift delivery. Creates slight coil over back leg at gather prior to driving in line to the plate with front hip. Smooth arm circle back at separation and released from a three-quarters arm slot. Fastball came out of hand cleanly with occasional life through the zone, topped at 81 miles per hour. Tends to shorten arm action slightly with an 11/5 curveball that showed good spin and some depth to the bottom of the zone. Flashed a changeup with solid late sink in the upper 60's as well. Tools will continue to develop with physical maturity and repetition. Excellent student.
