2004 Southeast Top Prospect Showcase
Brandon Monk is a shortstop/right handed pitcher from Lagrange, Georgia. Monk was the top prospect at the Southeast Top Prospects Showcase. He has a body with outstanding strength with advanced muscle tone. He lit up the guns with 91 mph velocity from the outfield and followed that up with 91 mph velocity from shortstop. Brandon even threw 88 mph off the mound with good command and clean delivery. We've heard he's touched 94 mph in the past. He showed smooth athletic actions, and a very quick release in the outfield, and polished actions at shortstop with smooth pro level transfers and pro potential with his footwork and hands. Brandon is a right handed hitter with a very quick bat and strong hands. He knows how to hit and shows pro level bat speed and should hit with pro level power down the road. He took one of the best batting practices we've seen all summer at any PG event. He is a top level hitting prospect! On the mound he showed very quick arm speed and a balanced delivery. He had normal effort in his delivery from a mid 3/4 arm slot. He has good arm speed on all of his pitches with a clean online stride. Brandon shows a high elbow on his backside take away, but good down and through finish. Monk has the potential to be a very high draft pick. Brandon is a very good student.
