Brice Armistead is a 2017 LHP/OF with a 5-11 175 lb. frame from Katy, TX who attends Seven Lakes HS. Medium, athletic frame with square shoulders and a lean, projectable build with room to fill throughout moving forward. Good athlete, posted a 6.82 60-yard dash. Primary lefthanded pitcher, begins with a high leg lift up above belt, loads weight on backside prior to driving on line towards plate. Simple mechanics and measured tempo, gets inconsistent with arm stroke and loses release point at times, works from a three-quarters slot and able to create angle when down in zone. Fastball topped out at 85 mph with short running life to the arm side, occasional cut when working to glove side. Can challenge inside with fastball and holds velocity out of the stretch, flashed a tight and sharp breaking ball with 1-7 life at 70 mph and could be a weapon the more he throws it. Similar strong arm from the outfield, fields the ball out front, athletic actions moving towards the ball, made a nice diving catch down left field line during live action, ball carries well out of the hand and shows accuracy on throws to intended base. Righthanded hitter, begins with a square stance and a high hand set in the box. Shifts weight well moving into contact at start of swing, simple and short swing path, able to repeat it well. Uses a high leg kick trigger for timing, occasionally gets off balance but remains quick to the ball and creates line drive contact while working the middle of the field and showing the ability to use the opposite field as well. Named to South Uncommitted Top Prospect List. Good student.
