Joshua O'Connell is a 2016 RHP with a 5-11 176 lb. frame from Waban, MA who attends Newton South HS. Medium, athletic build with broad shoulders and well proportioned strength throughout frame. Ran a 7.23 60-yard dash. Primary right-handed pitcher, shows a short and quick arm action through the back leading to a three-quarter release point. Balanced delivery with high leg lift, shows sound mechanics and repeats them well while keeping weight towards the plate with an online landing. Gets on top of fastball which topped at 84 mph, showed ability to locate to glove side with some cutting life and has the ability to miss bats while down in the zone. Nice feel for slider at 74 mph, short depth with tight rotation and late life. Consistently mixes and keeps hitters off balanced, held velocity well and flashed a changeup at 74 mph. Excellent student.
