Justin Murphey is a 2017 SS/RHP with a 6-0 150 lb. frame from Porter, TX who attends New Caney HS. Large frame, young lean build with plenty of room to fill out. Primary shortstop, fields out in front, could get a bit lower in fielding position, has solid transfer and releases well with accurate throws to bases. Also worked out at catcher, developing actions and footwork, would be better served to explode out of crouch rather than stand up. Right handed hitter, wide base with toe-tap timing mechanism. Likes to stay inside the baseball, work to the opposite field. Shows some feel for handling the barrel. Also pitched, threw one inning. Works to a 3/4's arm slot, energetic delivery and release. Fastball up to 76 mph, short armside run, gets on top of the ball and shows some downhill plane. Flashed a curveball with some depth, still finding consistent release point on pitch. Good student.
