Jacob Weiss is a 2020 C/RHP, OF with a 6-0 170 lb. frame from Atwater, CA who attends Atwater. Medium frame with an athletic build and wiry strength. Frame projects to support additional strength. Ran a 7.16 sixty-yard dash. Primary catcher with a low, balanced stance while receiving the baseball. Gains some ground while working out of crouch to a taller throwing position. Clean exchanges with a compact glove circle. Released from a three-quarters slot generating on line carry to the bag at 75 miles per hour, best workout pop time of 2.08. Right handed hitter with a spread, slightly open stance and simple front side trigger. Coils hands slightly at load and works to contact with rotational actions. Inside hand path to contact with a line drive barrel plane through extension. Generated good jump off the barrel while employing a high contact, mid field approach. Stays balanced throughout and showed the ability to repeat plane throughout all parts of the zone. Also pitched utilizing a smooth paced side step to medium leg lift delivery. Stays tall with slight coil over back side at gather. Clean arm circle at take back and released from a three-quarters slot. Fastball showed some life out of hand with occasional downward tilt in the upper 70's to low 80's, topped at 82 miles per hour. Curveball had 12/6 shape with tight spin and good depth to the bottom of the zone in the upper 60's. Consistently filled the zone and effectively changed speeds to keep hitters off balance. Very good student. Named to the 2017 California Underclass Showcase, Top Prospect List.
