Zach Harstad is a 2019 1B/LHP, OF with a 6-5 180 lb. frame from Loveland, CO who attends Loveland. Large frame with long limbs. Frame projects to support additional size and strength. Primary first baseman with clean, sound footwork while traveling to and surrounding the baseball. Funnels baseball well and showed the ability to handle tough hops. Created accurate carry across the infield from multiple arm slots, topped at 78 miles per hour. Left handed hitter with an open stance and large leg lift trigger. Works to contact with rotational lower half actions. Showed solid feel for the barrel with a level, line drive barrel plane and mid-field approach. Also pitched utilizing a compact side step to high leg lift delivery. Full arm swing at take back and released from a high three-quarters slot. Stays balanced throughout with a steady tempo. Fastball flashed good life out of hand with run to arm side in the upper 70's to low 80's, topped at 81 miles per hour. Showed good command of the zone with a 12/6 breaking ball that created solid downward bite in the mid 60's. Consistently attacked the strike zone and challenged hitter with both pitches. Excellent student as well.
