Mario Vargas is a 2018 RHP/1B/OF with a 6-0 185 lb. frame from San Bruno, CA who attends Burlingame HS. Medium build with broad shoulders and strong hips, pretty mature physically. Full and loose arm action, 3/4's arm slot, compact on line mechanics he repeats well, arm comes through clean. Fastball topped out at 85 mph, gets good consistent running life, maintained velocity well. Slider was a very good pitch for him, throws it hard with tight spin and locates it down in the zone well. Takes off the slider effectively for a bigger curveball, also flashed a change up. Mixes his pitches well and filled up the strike zone, very effective and clean outing. Left handed hitter, open stance and front side, pull approach, showed some carry when he squared up and created back spin. Good student.
