LATEST PG SHOWCASE REPORT
2020 California Workout Camp (Saturday)
Christian Duarte is a 2025 LHP/1B with a 6-0 140 lb. frame from San Jose, CA who attends Bellermine Prep. Christian has a long and lean frame with room to fill as he matures. He does show emerging athleticism that should continue to develop over the next few years. He ran an 8.45 60 yard dash. A primary LHP, Christian already has as his foundation a solid mechanical operation. His lower half works well as he uses a higher leg lift and a sound hip turn and rotation. He works down the slope well and repeats his mechanics consistently. His 68-73 mph fastball shows some arm side run and sink and is thrown primarily to the lower half of the zone. He compliments his heater with a classically shaped 60 SL that he works to the glove side inner half. His 61 mph change up is a plus feel pitch and he throws it with a purpose. CH shows some late tumble at the dish and could be a tough swing and miss pitch for RHH. Christian also took his turn at 1B where he has a developing game that will certainly improve as he hits his growth spurt and gains higher level experience. He understands the necessary skills needed at this all important position and shows glimpses of that. He works hard to position and field and is measured in and with his throwing. His 71 mph throws do show carry and routine accuracy. Offensively, Christian has a game that is just scratching the surface. He was obviously a bit nervous at the beginning of his round, but improved markedly as his round went. He has some feel for the barrel that will unquestionably improve as he gains experience. He appears to track the ball well and trigger with some force. He has the right idea with a bat in his hands and will get much better as he gets stronger and faces better competition. There is a lot of promise in Christian's overall game and we look forward to watching him progress.
