2007 California Underclass Showcase
John Lally is a 2008 LHP with a 6'1'', 167 lb. frame from Rancho Santa Margarita CA, who attends Santa Margarita Catholic HS. He has a rangy, athletic build, with room to continue to naturally fill out. Lally is a quality college pitching prospect and is likely to get quality attention from D1 programs. He is the type of pitcher that will fly under the radar during the summer showcase season and fall recruiting period because he does not yet throw as hard as some of his peers. However, he will continue to gain velocity and already has good feel for the baseball, with a quality three pitch mix. Lally is a quality strike thower. He pitches with pretty easy effort and with a shortside arm action, his stuff can be sneaky quick to hitters. His fastball (80-83 mph) is good enough to get inside to right hand hitters and he showed the ability to compete in that spot. After going in, Lally also showed the ability to turn over the fastball which results in ground balls. His curveball (67-68 mph) has good spin and action and his change-up (71 mph) has some sink. All of Lally's pitches have movment and he showed feel of them all. He is a strong student and a quality high school pitcher who is going to end up in school and help a college team win a lot of games.
