Eugene Escat is a 2007 RHP/SS/1B with a 6'3'', 180 lb. frame from Hanford CA, who attends Hanford HS. Named a Top Prospect at this event. Escat has a long, lanky, lean body, with long legs. He drips physical projection. Combine that with his well-rounded tool set, and Escat is a very projectable baseball player. At this point it is not easy to determine whether his upside is best as a pitcher or as a hitter. Time will tell. On the mound he pitches from a 3/4 slot, with a long, sling type arm action. Escat's fastball topped at 87 mph, sat in the low-mid 80s, and came out of his hand pretty easily, suggesting pretty significant velocity gains as he continues to physically develop. He wraps his curveball a bit but has some late diving action. It is still developing. Follow his development on the mound, there is something there. With the bat Escat also showed potential. He keeps his hands inside the ball through contact and keeps his body behind the ball. There is some projectable power and enough bat speed, with physical upside to suggest that it will come out, if he gets the reps. Defensively he is was not listed as an outfielder, but his tools played well from the outfield, with a good arm, good release, tracking throws, and decent range. He could develop into a solid right fielder. Escat is a strong student with a lot of upside as a player. Very interesting.
