2022 PG Softball Winter Scouting Combine - Iowa
Maddy McDermott is a 5-foot-11, class of 2023 RHP/1B from Walcott, IA who attends North Scott HS. Maddy is an elite two-way talent who can also swing the bat. She is a gifted athlete with certain high-level projectable ability. In addition to her obvious talent on the diamond, Maddy is also an exemplary student. She ran a 5.76 40-yard dash and was timed at 3.90 from HP to 1B time. She also posted a 6'3 1/2 broad jump. A primary RHP, Maddy is powerful. Her long levers allow her to generate plus pop and action. She is first and foremost a power pitcher. She works both rivers with sound movement. Her screwball shows solid arm side bore and her rise has consistent late jump. Her curveball, especially when she finished, is a plus pitch. The change up is a great counter to her power offerings. Maddy has a college ready arsenal right now and with two more years of HS and travel ball, she'll certainly improve on her already immense talent in the circle. She is also an accomplished defender at 1B. She is quick to position, and her soft hands allow her glove to play well. She is an efficient thrower, and her short arm action allows her 60-mph throws to be on target and show plus carry. At the plate, Maddy shows an ability to be a middle-of-the-order run producer. Although she may not be called upon to bunt much, she can handle the short game. She starts in a balanced and even stance. She has an easy load and a quick trigger. She shows a natural and consistent feel for the barrel with a flatter path and a slugger's lift at contact. Big barrel whip and sound pop. Big, easy gap-to-gap power with an ability to leave any part of the yard. Maddy has multiple college-ready tools and has a bright future in the game. Unquestioned ability to project to the next level.
