Austin Wright is a 2008 LHP with a 6'3'', 210 lb. frame from Schaumburg, IL who attends Conant HS. Wright has a strong, mature build with a long torso. He has a deceptive delivery with good balance and direction and hides the ball well from hitters. Wright keeps his mechanics simple and develops good energy to the plate. He has a long and fast arm action and a high 3/4's release point. Wright is very aggressive with his fastball and it's by far his best pitch. It was steady 90-93 mph and seemed to jump on hitters late. He tended to pitch to the middle of the plate with his fastball but when he brought it inside it was a nasty pitch. Wright threw a 72 mph curveball that he wrapped in back and did not develop good spin out front. He looks like a pitcher who should have no problem developing a slider off his fastball and will likely do that in the future. Wright's change up had some feel at 81 mph. Wright has a power arm with an aggressive approach to pitching. Former ML closer Randy Myers would be one good comparison for him. He's an Aflac All-American and a potential high pick next June. Selected to 2007 Aflac All-American team.
