Matthew Powell is a 2019 C/UT with a 6-2 185 lb. frame from Fort Myers, FL who attends Bishop Verot HS. Recorded a 7.34 second 60-yard dash time. Physical frame with well-proportioned strength and size presently and still room to add more. Primary catcher with very quick transfers and releases. Strong arm up to 76 mph and very quick actions with a low pop time of 1.84 seconds. Element of explosiveness to actions with good throws. High level catch-and-throw skills that played well in game and aggressive with his throws. Righthanded hitter with a narrow base and a high hand set with a high back elbow. Good bat speed with a leg lift trigger into contact. Linear lower half weight shift and utilizes good hip torque for additional power. Ball jumps off the barrel loudly and gets extended well. Pull side and up the middle approach. Overall very mechanically sound and fluid swing. Named to the 2017 Florida Underclass Showcase Top Prospect List. Verbal commitment to Florida. Outstanding student.
