2004 World Showcase
The lanky, angular 6-6 Brown was one of the surprises in the WWBA World Championship in October and it was good to see him again in a showcase environment. He didn’t show the raw arm strength that he did before, pitching at 86-88 mph in Fort Myers instead of 90-92, but that’s understandable this time of year. In addition to his sinking fastball, Brown showed two very good secondary pitches. His slider will reach 80 mph and has very tight spin and late break. He also throws a split finger at about the same speed that gets good consistent downward tumbling action. Brown has plenty of work to do in getting his body stronger and developing more consistency with his mechanics and release point, but he’s one of the most projectable pitchers in the 2004 class and has a very high ceiling.
